Excerpt: An extensive misconduct investigation that took three years to complete and produced a 60,000-page report, concludes that a researcher who has come to prominence in recent years for his investigations into the beneficial properties of resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, “is guilty of 145 counts of fabrication and falsification of data”. In a statement published on the university’s news website on Wednesday, the University of Connecticut (UConn) Health Center said the investigation has led them to inform 11 scientific journals that had published studies conducted by Dr Dipak K. Das, a professor in the university's Department of Surgery and director of its Cardiovascular Research Center. The internal investigation, which covered seven years of work in Das’s lab, was triggered by an anonymous allegation of “research irregularities” in 2008. The rules are complicated, but for the most part, apartments are regulated until they’re vacant and lease for more than $2,500 a month. Until then, the government determines annual rent increases. With few exceptions, tenants can renew their leases forever and can hand down their apartments to their kids. Excerpt: London, 13 January: A climate bet proposed by the BBC’s radio programme “More or Less” four years ago has been won by Dr David Whitehouse, a former BBC Science Editor and a scientific adviser to the Global Warming Policy Foundation. In 2008, the BBC programme-makers came up with the idea of a bet. It was for £100 that, using the Met Office’s data set (HadCrut3), there would be no new warming record set by 2011. It was made between Dr Whitehouse and climatologist Dr James Annan. Later today, the BBC’s “More or Less” (16:30 on BBC Radio 4) will report about the outcome of the bet and announce the winner. (Why is this important? Almost everyone is willing to agree some warming has taken place since the end of WWII; the argument is over what—if anything—is causing it. Every theory of Anthropomorphic Global Warming (AGW)—which means “humans caused or are causing it”—requires that as greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere increase (which everyone agrees they have and are continuing to do), temperatures MUST likewise increase. There can be no pauses, no reversals, no retreats without invalidating the existing theories and computer models. Although it will get no publicity outside the skeptic world, this bet forces a public admission that no warming has occurred since 1995 from one of the leading media supporting AGW, the BBC. Ron P.)

Excerpt: If Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love wins her bid for Congress, she will be the first black Republican congresswoman in history. But don’t try to put her in that box. Love is running in Utah’s newly created 4th Congressional District. She will face a primary field including state Reps. Stephen Sandstrom and Carl Wimmer on June 26. If she wins, she’ll face Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson, who remains incredibly popular, in November.
