Rep. Ros-Lehtinen release of funding to Palestinian Authority reveals yet another RINO

In a stunning reversal of position, the Chairperson of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Rep. Ros-Lehtinen R-Florida, agreed to reinstate $200M in funding to the Palestinian Authority with a portion of that funding going to support PA security forces. The reasons for resuming funding were cited by Rep. Ros-Lehtinen as in the "National Security Interest" of the United States as well as the "word" that the government of Israel did not object. The statement issued by Rep. Ros-Lehtinen failed to cite what the "National Security Interest" is. The reality is this funding will buy weapons and fund not only the Palestinian Authority but Hamas as well. It appears that fact is lost on Rep. Ros-Lehtinen.
The Obama Administration provided over 1,000 pages of documents supporting the reinstatement of funding. There was no discussion about the documents provided and no calls for hearings on this matter. Rep Ros-Lehtinen did issue 2 letters that could be termed a classic CYA. One letter is a certification from President Obama that this funding was in fact in our National Security Interest. The second letter was that the government of Israel did not object.
The end result of all of this is our last hope of a strong Congressional position and leadership on this matter has failed miserably and the U.S. taxpayer has resumed funding terrorists that will continue to rocket Israeli cities and murder Israeli civilians. Why did Rep. Ros-Lehtinen roll over on an issue that clearly undermines the security of both Israel and the United States? Have we identified another RINO?
What do you say Rep. Ros-Lehtinen? Let's go back a few short months and cite some of your quotes related to funding the Palestinians from your Opening Statement at Hearing Examining U.S. Funding to the Palestinian Authority.
"Despite decades of assistance totaling billions of dollars, if a Palestinian State were declared today, it would be neither democratic nor peaceful nor willing to negotiate with Israel. By providing the Palestinians with $2.5 billion over the last five years, the U.S. has only rewarded and reinforced their bad behavior. It raises tough questions as to just what are the tangible benefits for the U.S., or for lasting peace and security between Israel and the Palestinians, derived from decades of assistance proved by the United States taxpayers. Palestinian leaders are not going to make the tough decisions and change their ways unless compelled to. If progress is to be made the Administration must stop looking for ways to circumvent requirements that the PA must meet certain criteria before they can received U.S. aid. These conditions call for the Palestinians to:
• completely abandon their unilateral efforts to secure recognition as an independent state
• tear up their agreements with Hamas
• return to direct negotiations with Israel
• stop anti-Israel incitement and begin preparing the Palestinian people for peace with Israel: and
• Recognize Israel's right to exist as a democratic, Jewish state. "
Now we all know that NONE of these conditions have been met. So my question is "What the heck happened that caused you to capitulate to President Obama and Secretary Clinton? Do they have compromising pictures of you or what?
The State Department has also been pressuring the Foreign Affairs Committee to release the funds. Here are some interesting quotes from a spokesman of the State Department. ""Congress should be aware of the potential second and third order effects of cutting off assistance to Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority," Andrew Shapiro, assistant secretary of State for political-military affairs, told an audience at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy on Friday. "We must ask ourselves, if we are no longer their partner, who will fill the void? We must think about the other potential partners that could fill the space left behind, and that should give us pause." Mr. Shapiro is also quoted regarding training political parties in Arab states as saying ""As these Arab countries are going into political transitions, a number of new people are coming into the political process, many of whom describe themselves as Islamists. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they are anti-democratic."
REALLY??? You are kidding us Mr. Shapiro..Right? You really think we are a partner with the Palestinians? We are clearly their patsy but partner is a bit of a stretch. Even better is your statement that Islamist does not equal anti-democratic. If this statement weren't so alarming it would be laughable. And we are paying you how much a year Mr. Shapiro?
This whole thing stinks and is not too hard to figure out. Here is what happened.
President Obama and Secretary Clinton are hell bent on keeping a lid on the failed "peace process" even if it cost Israeli lives. Secretary Clinton is directly involved in the discussions with Israel and also put pressure on the Israeli's to freeze construction on new housing. This will of course just perpetuate the status quo until after the 2012 election cycle. I wonder if BHO and Hillary have discussed the merits of skating on thin ice. They are playing a dangerous shell game. The National Security Interest of the United States in the region lies directly with the only true democracy which is Israel. If they want to worry about National Security then they need to look no further than Iran. That would be the country on the verge of building a nuclear weapon. That would also be the same country that tried and failed to launch an operation on U.S. soil. In case you missed that we are going to sanction Iran with a harsh letter to follow. I am sure the Iranian leadership is terrified of this President.
The Israeli's did not agree to the resumption of funding. They were threatened and blackmailed with the threat of suspension of U.S. aid for Israel's defense. Israel would never agree to fund the Palestinians with money that they use to pay terrorists salaries. Hamas and other terrorist groups offer a $5,000 per dead Jew bounty. To think the Israeli government would support funding the salaries of terrorists and the murder of its own citizens is just ridiculous.
Rep. Ros-Lehtinen speaks a tough story but has clearly shown that she is just another RINO. We were counting on you Rep. Ros-Lehtinen. We were counting on you to do the right thing. We were counting on you to stand for the best interest of the American people in the face of a progressive, socialist administration. We were counting on you to be true to your words. Who do we count on now?
