'Enough is enough,' Obama says, calling for deal

WASHINGTON (AP) - Amid new warnings and fresh signs of strain, President Barack Obama and congressional leaders are entering a perilous debt-limit endgame. The president, declaring "enough is enough," is demanding that budget negotiators find common ground by week's end even as the Senate's top Republican gained followers for his own last-ditch scheme to avoid a government default.
The continuing impasse was unsettling Wall Street, which up to now had performed as if an increase in the debt ceiling was not in doubt. And the looming Aug. 2 cutoff for action was creating new tensions between the president and Republican leaders.

McConnell: GOP Won't Be "Reduced To Being Tax Collectors For The Obama Economy"
"I was truly hopeful that the President could be persuaded to view the upcoming debt limit vote as an opportunity to cut Washington spending and the debt that has ballooned since he took office, and to preserve entitlements at the same time. But in the end, he just wasn't interested in doing something of that magnitude that would pass. He really gave us three bad choices: higher taxes, smoke and mirrors, or default. And we refuse to accept any of them. Republicans not be reduced to being the tax collectors for the Obama economy. We won't be seduced into calling a bad deal a good deal. And we won't let the White House fool around with the full faith and credit of the United States. If the President wants to threaten seniors or veterans or rattle the world economy by pretending he can't pay our bills, he of course can do that. But he is not going to implicate Republicans in these efforts," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

Sarah Palin: I don’t trust this President

Sarah Palin told Republicans that now is not the time to retreat, but instead it’s the time to reload. She said we can’t trust this President to further manipulate our economy by raising the debt limit for him.
When pressed on what deal she would accept, she indicated that she believed they would probably raise the debt limit anyway and in that case she would only accept DeMint’s plan of Cut, Cap, and Balance our budget. Hannity pressed her on if she would accept dollar for dollar debt increase to spending cuts, immediately – not down the road, and a balanced budget in a separate bill. She said no because Obama doesn’t know how to cut like that:
Lee ADDS: If you watch the press conference, wherein Reid and Geitherner issued their threats of destruction and doom, Shcurmer could be seen biting his lip to refrain from laughing in his glee! He is happy to hear Democrats as they do nothing but issue threat upon threat!
