Why Are You Funding Sanctuary Cities?

The problems associated with illegal immigration are not confined to the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, which is why Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Penn.), has unveiled the Mobilization Against Sanctuary Cities (MASC) Act that would crack down on more than 100 cities whose elected officials have willfully chosen to not enforce immigration policy by withholding all federal funding from them as long as their sanctuary policies are in place.

Rep. Barletta has asked the Congressional Research Service to compile a comprehensive list of sanctuary cities and calculate how many federal taxpayer dollars each receives.

"Local elected officials who choose to ignore enforcement of federal immigration policy are aiding and assisting illegal aliens, and it is illegal to aid and abet those who are in this country illegally. They should not receive millions or even billions in tax dollars as a reward," Rep. Barletta said.

"My intention is to face illegal immigration head on. My bill makes sure that sanctuary cities no longer get federal money as long as federal officials ignore federal law."

While city officials and politicians ignore the problems of illegal immigration, U.S. citizens are dying because their local hospitals are being forced to close due to bankruptcies that stems from the unpaid costs associated with treating the growing illegal immigrant population.

The Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons reports that in Stockton, Calif., in 2003, 70 percent of the 2,300 infants born in San Joaquin General Hospital's maternity ward were infants whose parents are illegal immigrants. In 1994, taxpayers paid $215 million to cover 74,987 infants of illegal immigrants in California hospital maternity units, constituting 36 percent of all Medi-Cal births. Now they account for more than 50 percent.

In New York, "The closure of St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan sparks fear about the impact on the remaining hospitals; hospital employees and advocates in Queens say they continue to struggle with the effects of three hospital closures. The overcrowding problem, they say, is exacerbated by a growing immigrant population," according to the Wall Street Journal.

President Obama rejected Governor Jan Brewer's request to meet and discuss the problems her state faces due to illegal immigration.

Instead of communicating with border-state governors to find solutions to solve the problem of illegal immigration, President Obama decided that he would prefer to stay in his FANTASY world and discuss immigration issues with Hollywood actress Eva Longoria and AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka.

The Obama FANTASY plan is to ignore America's problems and HOPE that someone else will make them all go away. In the meantime, Obama's strategy is to increase taxes on hard-working American taxpayers.
