Read an editorial (in The New York Times, for instance), tune in to a newscast (say on CNN), watch late-night television (if you have a strong stomach) – and there it is: the irrational, the nonsensical, the contradictory, the clearly absurd taken as revealed truth. We are wading in it, swimming in it, choking on it.
