I have a confession to make…

I’ve been pulled over by the police.  Multiple times.  Traffic violations.  Guess what?

I fear for my life when it happens, too.  And I’m white.  Why? 

Because I know (a) the police officer has a gun, (b) knows how to use it, (c) is understandably suspicious about approaching a completely unknown driver and (d) any mistake in action I make could very well end up very badly for me.

So once the police lights come on I pull to the side of the road, put the car in park, and place both hands on the top of the steering wheel where the officer can plainly see them.
