Dear Friend, Let me begin by congratulating Destiny Dawn Gregory (pictured below with her father) as she assumes command of Vernon High School’s JROTC program after only a year and a half in the program. She is the first Asian-American to receive the title of Cadet Battalion Commander for the program. I met Destiny during my most recent Academy Day event in the district, and she is an exceptional young leader. I wish her luck with her future successes within the JROTC program.

Sunrise Rotary and Sleep in Heavenly Peace, two organizations dedicated to helping children in need, had the goal to build fifteen bunk beds for Tallahassee and Crawfordville children who have no beds of their own. The organizations set up shop in the parking lot of Southern Flooring, and owner Shawn Yoakam was happy to help the cause. The volunteers worked tirelessly to meet their goal and had seven deliveries to make to children within the community. Read more here. |
Mexico Beach recently celebrated Florida’s Arbor Day by giving its residents a free tree. Officials gave citizens 100 trees of different varieties to rebuild the tree population in the community after the devastation of Hurricane Michael. City Administrator Doug Baber said he can’t wait to see these trees grow around the city over the years. These trees will help absorb some of the water in the area and provide shade for the community. Read more here. |
Single mother of four, Shakisha McDonald, recently woke up to a brand-new home. Habitat for Humanity and former Tampa Bay Bucs running back Warrick Dunn felt touched by her story and her work with the teens of the Boys & Girls Club of the community. She has been supporting the teens of Walton County for years, and on Tuesday, Dunn donated his 210th house to support her and her family. Go Bucs! Read more here. |
