Read More and Comment City Council, County Supervisors Agree to Build 10,000 Affordable Units on Public Land By Stephen Frank   It costs about $750,000 to build a single affordable unit in Los Angeles.  In San Fran the cost is $1.2 million.  So, take the median and the cost of a single affordable unit in San Diego will be about $1 million each.  That means that if San Diego is really going to build 10,000 units, it will cost about $10 billion—plus the cost of infrastructure, interest and other development costs.
