With the divisive nature of our national discourse these days, it’s easy to drone on about who and what you’re against. But it’s also important to say what you’re for.

In Florida, we have made the largest push anywhere in the country to get American civics back into our schools. We want to teach our children to understand the founding principles of our country, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

We want to teach them about the important time periods in our history, the values that have been fought and bled for. We want to teach our kids what it means to be an American.

As Florida’s children grow up, they will accomplish many different things. The one common thread for all of them is they are going to be called upon to exercise the duties of being an American citizen – and that means something.

As I look at the divisions in our society, I think if people had a better understanding of America’s foundations, we wouldn’t be as divided as a people.

So, in Florida, we are for the Constitution, we are for the founding principles of America, we are for teaching our children these things, and we’re proud of that.
