FLORIDA - SENATOR MARCO RUBIO eNEWSLETTER

Marco Rubio - U.S. Senator for Florida E-Newsletter

This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio

On Thursday, I introduced the Mind Your Own Business Act , legislation that would enable shareholders to hold woke corporations accountable. Specifically, the legislation would require corporate directors to prove their “woke” corporate actions were in their shareholders’ best interest in order to avoid liability for breach of fiduciary duty in shareholder litigation over corporate actions relating to certain social policies. It would also incentivize corporate management to stop abusing their positions to advance left-wing social policies by increasing their personal liability to shareholders for breaches of fiduciary duty resulting from those policies. I announced the bill during an appearance with Maria Bartiromo on Mornings with Maria and in a Fox Business op-ed. Watch the full interview here and read more here.

On Monday, I joined Hannity to discuss the Biden Administration's border disaster, their incompetence in handling COVID-19, and more. Watch the full interview here.

On Sunday, I published an op-ed in the Florida Times-Union discussing my LOAN Act, which would reform our federal direct student loan system by eliminating interest and replacing it with a one-time, non-compounding financing fee paid out over the life of the loan. Read the full article here

On Tuesday, I joined Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and colleagues in applauding the House’s unanimous passage of the Helping American Victims Afflicted by Neurological Attacks (HAVANA) Act, our legislation to support American public servants who have suffered brain injuries from probable directed energy attacks. On Thursday, Representative Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and I introduced the Prioritizing Readiness and Competitiveness (PRC) Act, which would reroute any unobligated, appropriated funds related to maintaining a military presence in Afghanistan and supporting the Afghan government or military toward great power competition with the People’s Republic of China. On Wednesday, I published an op-ed in The American Conservative discussing why this move is so critical. Read more here

On Wednesday, I joined Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and others in urging the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to delay its new National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) rating system, known as Risk Rating 2.0. Read more here

On Wednesday, I released a statement on China Evergrande Group’s impending default. The company, which has more than $300 billion in outstanding liabilities, is the world’s most indebted developer and on the brink of collapse. Read more here.

On Tuesday, I joined Trey Radel to discuss the crisis at the border, General Milley, Afghanistan, and more. Read more here.

On Wednesday, I joined Nelson Rubio and Rodrigo Durán on Radio Mambí to discuss the border crisis, my bill to provide assistance for victims of Havana Syndrome, and my calls for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Milley to resign following reports that suggest he circumvented the civilian chain of command. Legislation Introduced

  • On Tuesday, Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and I introduced legislation, the NFIP Extension Act of 2021, to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through December 3rd, 2021. The legislation would ensure that the program – currently set to expire this month – does not experience a lapse in authorization, which would have potentially devastating consequences for real estate owners, renters, and businesses. Read more here
  • On Wednesday, Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and I introduced a bipartisan Senate resolution expressing Congress’s alarm over the growing humanitarian needs of women and children inside Venezuela and those seeking international protection in neighboring countries. Read more here
  • On Thursday, I joined Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Pat Toomey (R-PA), and colleagues in reintroducing the Full Faith and Credit Act to ensure the federal government prioritizes funding for our military, veterans and seniors should Democrats fail to take action to raise or suspend it the federal debt limit while continuing to push forward a radical, multi-trillion-dollar partisan agenda. • On Thursday, Senators Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Susan Collins (R-ME), and I introduced a standalone supplemental appropriations bill to fund Israel’s Iron Dome. Read more here
