Dear Friend, Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention amended their recommendations for vaccinated individuals. For many of us, this is a huge sigh of relief. We’re slowly moving back to the way life was before the COVID pandemic and I am beyond grateful. Here are a few other good news stories to help get you through the week -- | After years of planning and hard work, a new state-of-the-art Foxtrot 95 Calhoun County Airport officially opened last Saturday in Altha, FL. After the complete destruction in 2018 by Hurricane Michael, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) and Industrial Development Authority (IDA) worked hard on an innovative recovery plan for the facility. Their hard work certainly paid off! The new terminal features a large conference room, pilots’ lounge, weather observation system, and business center. Read more about the facility here. | The Port St. Joe United Methodist Church has opened its Two Fish Food Market, a ministry to help battle food insecurity. Following a grand opening held earlier this month, the location at 212 Williams Avenue offers free food for members who qualify based on their income. Members can shop every other week for items they choose, including meats, dairy, fresh fruits, and vegetables, as well as nonperishable items. I love seeing our communities rally together to serve others. Thank you for your generosity! Read more here. | The monthly Sunset and Full Moon climbs are back at the Cape St. George Lighthouse. The May Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the view of St. George Island, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky from the top of the lighthouse. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience one of the best views our district has to offer.
