FLORIDA - JOE HARDING WEEKLY UPDATE 05/17/2021

 

WEEKLY UPDATE Dear Friends, Monday Senator Jennifer Bradley and I met with the Measure Up Marion Coalition, which is affiliated with Marion County Children's Alliance, to discuss alcohol and substance abuse prevention programs for youth in Marion County. I also attended the First Responders Mental Health Awareness Day event sponsored by Senator Keith Perry and CFO Jimmy Patronis. The event took place at the Florida Fire College. Supporting our First Responders Mental Health is important and I'm grateful that CFO Patronis and Senator Perry led this event to help raise awareness. Tuesday I also had the honor to speak at the Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Equipment Grant Program awards at the Sanford Fire Department which was sponsored by CFO Patronis. The grants will provide financial assistance to qualifying fire departments to help procure equipment, supplies, and educational training material designed to mitigate exposure to hazardous, cancer-causing chemicals. Legislative Assistant, Kennedy Starnes, and District Secretary, Cyndie McQuaig, attended a Ribbon Cutting event for the College of Central Florida and Lockheed Martin for a new Apprenticeship lab opening on the college’s Ocala campus. In this state of the art Apprenticeship lab, Lockheed Martin associates will hone their skills in soldering and wiring to manufacture components for aerospace and defense industries. Thursday I attended the Fallen Officer Memorial Ceremony in Marion county alongside Senator Perry, Attorney General Ashely Moody and Senator Baxley. Thursday I was able to speak at the Blessed Trinity Rotary event, where I recapped the 2021 Legislative Session and shared about my sponsored and co-sponsored bills this session. Friday District Secretary, Cyndie McQuaig arranged an interview with World War Two Veteran, Clinton Burns and a documentary crew from from Washington DC to hear more about his story and service to our Country. We thank him for his selfless service and dedication to our Country.
