NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend, Between the gas shortages, the lack of leadership and accountability, and the unstable economy, the Biden Administration has somehow managed to cram four years of the Carter Administration into his first 100 days.
During my telephone town hall on Thursday night, several callers expressed their frustration with the current state of affairs. Constituents shared their thoughts on how President Biden’s first 100 days have negatively impacted them, how they are worried about their safety as the border crisis continues, and how their businesses are struggling to compete with our current unemployment benefits. The country is on a dangerous path, and I share your concerns. We will hold more of these events throughout the year so please keep sharing your stories with me. Your thoughts and views help me represent you in Washington.
Some good news from this week -- the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have updated their guidelines and relaxed mask recommendations for individuals who are vaccinated. I’ve included details about this below.
Additionally, Israel is facing deadly attacks from Hamas, again. Hamas is a terrorist organization that is motivated by destruction and hate. Israel is right to defend itself. They cannot stand by and watch their civilians be killed, nor should they be expected to. America must continue to support our long-standing ally Israel against these Hamas attacks. Please join me in praying for the protection and safety of our allies. Please read about my week below:
This Week in the District What’s Happening on Capitol Hill Coronavirus Updates This Week in the District Panama City Port Authority Dedication Ceremony
This past week, I had the exciting opportunity to join friends and local leaders in celebrating the Panama City Port Authority’s East Terminal expansion. The East Terminal project has been in the works since 2016. Despite a temporary delay due to damage from Hurricane Michael, the Port and the Army Corps of Engineers have done an exceptional job seeing this project through.
This expansion is projected to generate over 300 direct jobs, and by increasing the terminal’s capacity, the expansion will bring more business to the region. During the ceremony, the terminal was dedicated to the safety and well-being of the people and companies who work and use these facilities. These are the hardworking people who are major players in our regional economy. We want them to succeed, and this dedication reminds us of that.
I would like to thank all of you who have played a part in making this expansion happen, especially the United States Army Corps of Engineers for your work in constructing the East Channel deepening project. Like me, you all saw the potential in our area & fought to see it through. I would also like to thank my friend, Wayne Stubbs, for his exceptional leadership during this process. It was his foresight and perseverance that drove this project, and because of him and his team, our community will benefit for years to come.
What’s Happening on Capitol Hill Telephone Town Hall
On Thursday evening, I caught up with some of our constituents in Florida’s Second Congressional District during a live Telephone Town Hall. During the call, we received questions about unemployment, health care, vaccines, holding China accountable, and protecting the Second Amendment. If you did not get an opportunity to join the call, do not worry. We will hold more of these town halls throughout the year.
Here are the results from the polling we conducted during the call: - Are you concerned about Washington's wasteful spending? -- 97% yes / 3% no
- Is protecting your Second Amendment right important to you? -- 98% yes / 2% no
- Do you believe you’re paying too much for health care and prescription drugs? -- 89% yes / 11% no
Thank you to all who joined the call! And thank you for all the great questions! I appreciate your time.
Coronavirus Updates Latest Update
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has released updated guidelines for people who have been vaccinated. If you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can resume activities that you did before the pandemic without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, including local business and workplace guidance.
Get Vaccinated
Floridians 16 and up are now eligible to receive any COVID-19 vaccine as prescribed by the Food and Drug Administration. The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for persons age 16 and up. The Moderna vaccine is authorized for persons age 18 and up.
I encourage you to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. The State of Florida has partnered with Sharecare to provide an easy-to-use platform that will save your spot for your shot. Pre-register here. Florida has many sites providing the COVID-19 vaccine. Use the vaccine finder to find a site near you. Supplies are limited and appointments may be required.

| Constituent Casework Corner
A quadriplegic constituent contacted my office when the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) denied their claim for a replacement rotating hospital bed. We were able to work with CMS to have the constituent’s record reviewed and it was determined the claim being denied was an error. CMS approved the claim and the constituent received the needed rotating hospital bed.
