FLORIDA - STATE REP JOE HARDING WEEKLY UPDATE 12/24/2020

WEEKLY UPDATE

I know we are all watching the calendar counting down the seconds until 2020 is behind us. I want to take a minute to count God’s blessings that were wrapped up in a blanket of chaos. I’ve spoken to many of you who are closer as families because of the time spent at home over the last year. We were forced to reflect on things that mattered most to us and focus on our love for each other, the simple things in life, and our health and economic stability. While nothing happens in God’s world by mistake, the crosses we carried this year might have been heavier than usual. I believe we have grown as a state and Florida has emerged as one of the last bastions of individual liberty in our Great Nation.
As we welcome the celebration of the birth of our eternal life, we are reminded that the heavenly light of the Christmas Star was first sent to us to cast light where there was dark. Remembering that God’s will is providential, the emergence of the “Christmas Star” in the heavens for the first time in 800 years is a sign that the darkness of 2020 will be replaced with the light of Jesus Christ. In celebrating His birth, like no time in recent history, remember the reason for the season and carry that spirit into 2021. Only light can replace darkness.

I want to introduce you to our legislative team for House District 22. Welcome our Legislative Aide Kennedy Starnes and our District Secretary Cyndie McQuaig.
Kennedy is from Ocala where she graduated from Lake Weir High School. She has a BA in International Relations from Florida International University and was previously a corps member with City Year Miami and also interned in Senator Marco Rubio's Miami office before moving to New York to pursue her master's degree at New York University. She graduated with a master’s in public administration and nonprofit management. Her hobbies include visiting coffee shops, taking spin classes, and learning new languages.
Along with the big shoes to fill and a ton of very important advice, Representative Stone also blessed us with Cyndie McQuaig. Her degree is in Psychology and her background includes: Victim Advocate, Domestic Violence Counselor, Volunteer for Teen Court, Volunteer Victim Advocate for Dunnellon Police Department, Surgical Assistant for Perio at UF and Private Practice. She is married and has 5 children and 13 grandchildren. She is a Florida native who enjoys the outdoors and reading, and she hopes to finish her doctorate someday.
We are honored to announce my committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session:

  • Education & Employment Committee
  • Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee
  • Local Administration & Veterans Affairs Subcommittee
  • Regulatory Reform Subcommittee
  • Secondary Education & Career Development Subcommittee

These committees and subcommittees will allow me to focus on accomplishing many of the campaign promises that I made to you. Specifically, you know I put an emphasis on increasing vocational technology opportunities for our workforce which I will be able to help with. In addition, I will be able to attack the regulations and impediments that block our small business owners from creating new jobs and a flourishing economy.

I look forward to 2021 with anticipation. As we close a very big and sturdy door on 2020, I pray that the gifts God has afforded us will be used to make Florida a better place to live. May we all be the channel of God’s grace that He intends us to be, and may we all make 2021 the comeback year it needs to be for us and our families.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. May each and every one of you sleep in heavenly peace!
Joe
