The 1619 Project, launched by The New York Times in 2019, is an attempt to reframe America’s history around the institution of slavery. Some of its claims include:
- America’s true founding was not in 1776 but rather in 1619, the year the first slaves landed on this country’s shores.
- The Founders’ real reason for fighting for independence from Great Britain was to preserve slaveholding.
- American capitalism was developed from and modeled on plantation slavery.
These claims and many others made by The 1619 Project have been contested and debunked by numerous historians across the political spectrum. Nevertheless, The 1619 Project is now being taught in more than 3,500 classrooms and five urban public school systems nationwide.
This shoddy, ideologically biased content should be nowhere near our children’s history classes.
Fortunately, Senator Tom Cotton has introduced legislation that would prohibit the use of federal funds to teach the 1619 Project in K-12 schools, but we need to ensure he has the support he needs to pass this bill.
At the American Principles Project (APP), we protect families and their role in society by engaging in key elections, promoting strategic legislation, conducting groundbreaking research, and fighting off threats to America’s most important institution -- the family.
There’s no denying that the quality of education over the past two decades has had a disastrous effect on the heart and soul of younger generations. We are now seeing it in our city streets every day.
And the radical leftists who trained them aren’t satisfied yet. They won’t rest until America is lost to a full socialist takeover, which would leave families, religious liberty, and protections for the unborn decimated.
Well, I refuse to live in their America. Here at APP, we believe that the family is where education starts and character is formed. We believe that if families stand together, we can keep this radical indoctrination program out of our children’s schools and teach the next generation why America is the greatest nation in the history of the world -- and why it must be preserved!
