Dear Friend,
Today, we are inducting Megan Sheets from The Daily Mail to the Wall of Shame after her defamatory article about Project Veritas’ journalism was published.
Here is what Sheets wrote originally:
She also said that “Project Veritas is a right-wing activist group known to traffic misinformation.”
As you can see, Sheets unleashed a series of unfounded attacks against our work in order to diminish the credibility of our Facebook investigation.
Here’s a summary of what happened:
After Project Veritas launched our Facebook Insiders story in June, Rep. Matt Gaetz wrote a letter to Attorney General William Barr asking the Department of Justice to investigate Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for lying to Congress.
Gaetz said that Project Veritas’ videos recorded by Facebook Insiders Zach McElroy and Ryan Hartwig showed clear evidence of anti-conservative bias on the platform, and that Zuckerberg lied to Congress in 2018 when he said Facebook was a platform for “all ideas.”
Clearly, Sheets took offense to the impact our journalism had. She decided that insulting Project Veritas was the way to get back at us.
Unfortunately for her, our lawyers reached out demanding that she retract her defamatory statements. Sheets was then forced to make significant changes to her article:
You can watch the full video here:
Is it really that difficult for journalists to report accurately about Project Veritas?
While we hope Sheets learns from her mistakes, we are also aware there will be other journalists who will follow in her footsteps and lie about Project Veritas in the future.
In the meantime, Project Veritas will continue to expand our office’s Wall of Shame to cope with the influx of retractions to come.
In Truth,
James
