BAD NEWS ON THE CORONAVIRUS FRONT
Bad news on the coronavirus front: transmission is once again on the rise, with Florida and North Carolina chalking up record single-day case increases on Thursday. This is being blamed on economies opening up, but some states never had full lockdowns or started easing them weeks ago. The sudden uptick now would seem to be more related to all the street protests.
But “health professionals” told us that protesting racism was more important than containing the virus, after telling us that protesting lockdowns wasn't. This means we are now entering a potentially dangerous period, where coronavirus cases are rising again while the “health experts” that people once trusted to help stem the rise have flushed all their credibility right down the toilet by prioritizing politics over science.
ANARCHIST PROTESTORS ARE TAKING OVER SEATTLE
Anarchist protesters are taking over Seattle, extorting businesses, waving around guns and declaring themselves an autonomous “cop-free” zone while Mayor Jenny Durkan not only does nothing to stop them, she’s called them “patriotic” and “peaceful,” and claimed it’s illegal for President Trump to order the military to stop their insurrection (fun fact: it isn’t.)
But after making a long list of ridiculous demands, the protesters have finally come up with one that I think virtually every American and all law-abiding Seattle residents can agree with. A group of protesters stormed City Hall and demanded that the Mayor resign.
I suspect even the police chief agrees with the protesters on this demand…
Of course, they want her to resign because she won’t defund the police department (she’s just neutered them.) But I’m willing to add that to the list of reasons, which is now in the quadruple digits. So far, she’s resisting resigning, but maybe if they explained to her that a group of lawless communist anarchists want it, she’d see the wisdom of it and do it.
SCRUBBING THE CAPITOL CLEAN
Nancy Pelosi is demanding that all Confederate statues be removed from the Capitol and all military bases named after Confederate officers be renamed because they glorify white supremacy. The Republican-led Senate Armed Services Committee voted to rename the bases as well, but President Trump says absolutely not: those bases have become part of a great American military tradition where soldiers were trained who won two World Wars.
I don’t know what the eventual resolution of this will be, but it seems that if they’re determined to scrub away the names of anyone ever associated with the Southern White supremacist movement from taxpayer-paid structures, they might start with all the things named after the late Sen. Robert Byrd, a one-time KKK “Exalted Cyclops.”
I know you’ll say I’m only saying that to stir up trouble because Robert Byrd was a Democrat. News flash: so were all those Confederate generals.
HOLLYWOOD CHIMES IN
A group of liberal celebrities shot one of those pretentious black-and-white videos with sad music where they look into the camera and tell us how racist we all are and how they are going to be more aware and work to change that. The response on Twitter was savage:
As many commenters noted, the same stars who scolded us for owning guns while hiring armed bodyguards, and for our sexism while protecting countless predators like Harvey Weinstein, and for generating CO2 while tooling around on yachts and private jets, are now scolding us for our racism. It also took them about 24 hours to go from attacking cops and donating big bucks to bail out rioters in Minneapolis to screaming for the police to come remove “these animals” from their gated neighborhoods when the looting reached Rodeo Drive.
As usual, Ricky Gervais was the only comic brave enough to pop their pomposity balloon…
But the best comment ever made by any celebrity about social commentary by celebrities still applies:

TRUMP MEETS ABOUT POLICE REFORM, RACISM, OTHER TOPICS
Yesterday, President Trump held a roundtable talk with faith leaders in Dallas about the ongoing turmoil over-policing and racism. He announced that he’s finalizing an executive order on policing that will encourage police departments nationwide to meet the most current, professional standards, including tactics for de-escalation, such as having social workers work with the police where it’s appropriate.But he said there will be no defunding of police: “If anything we’re going the opposite route. We’re going to make sure that our police are well trained, perfectly trained, they have the best equipment.”
I was also glad to hear Trump say that he would focus on economic development in minority communities, increase access to capital for small businesses, improve medical institutions in those neighborhoods and renew a call for Congress “to enact school choice.” Some of those are suggestions I made just yesterday that will do far more to help black communities than defunding the police would. But good luck getting a Democratic House to stop engaging in political theater by donning African costumes and kneeling, and pass real reform like school choice. Well, maybe after November…
