In response to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s unprecedented attempt to prevent an impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate, Senator Rick Scott, Senator Josh Hawley and colleagues introduced a resolution to update Senate rules to allow a motion to dismiss articles of impeachment for lack of prosecution. Senators Mike Braun, Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, Steve Daines, John Barrasso, Tom Cotton, Joni Ernst, David Perdue and Jim Inhofe are also cosponsors of the resolution.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are making a mockery of our government. Democrats have wanted to impeach Donald Trump since he came down that escalator four years ago. They just hate Trump. But Chairman Schiff did a great job showing the American people that the President did nothing wrong and that this is just an effort to undo the 2016 election. If Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want to send the articles to the Senate, we should dismiss the articles of impeachment and get back to work on all the things that aren’t getting done, like securing the border, passing No Budget, No Pay and lowering the cost of prescription drugs.” Read more HERE.
Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Lindsey Graham and colleagues to introduce a resolution demanding that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi immediately transmit the two Articles of Impeachment against President Trump to the Senate. Read more from the Senate Judiciary Committee HERE.
Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following violent efforts by the Maduro regime to block Juan Guaidó from a special session of the National Assembly, where he was expected to be re-elected as the legitimate President of Venezuela.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Maduro and his regime are demonstrating, once again, how desperate they are to hold on to power. Their attempts to use violence and intimidation to impede the fair re-election of Interim President Guaidó is disgraceful and won’t be tolerated. Thankfully, Venezuela’s political parties united in a strong showing of support for Juan Guaidó’s re-election. The United States, and freedom-loving countries around the world, have recognized Juan Guaidó as the legitimate President of Venezuela, and this sad attempt to block legitimate elections won’t stop our unwavering support. Maduro must go. Hopefully his actions will convince nations sitting on the fence that it’s time to stand with those fighting for freedom, democracy and human rights.” Read more HERE.

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following requests from the FBI to Apple Inc. to help unlock two iPhones that may contain information regarding the terrorist attack at NAS Pensacola.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Every American should be greatly concerned about last month’s terrorist attack that killed three brave sailors in Florida. It is unthinkable that any American business would refuse to offer their resources to help get to the bottom of an attack on our nation. Fourth Amendment protections don’t apply to dead terrorists. I hope Apple Inc. decides to comply with the FBI as soon as possible and be proactive in the effort to prevent future terrorist attacks.” Read more HERE.
Senator Rick Scott spoke on the Senate floor about President Trump’s recent actions to defend the freedom of our great nation. Watch Senator Scott’s speech or read excerpts of his remarks as prepared for delivery below. Read his full speech HERE.
President Trump is working to defend the freedom of our country.
He was right to take swift and decisive action to kill one of the world’s worst monsters. Soleimani was responsible for the death and maiming of thousands of Americans and tens of thousands worldwide. The regime in Iran, a regime that chants “death to America” and wants to wipe Israel off the face of the map, needs to know that the United States will NOT tolerate acts of aggression against America or our allies.
And the death of Soleimani was a strong warning.
We often forget, in Washington, that the people carrying out the orders of our Commander in Chief are just that people. They’re not pieces on a chess board. They are fathers and mothers. Sons and daughters. Brothers and sisters. I’m praying for our brave men and women in uniform some of them Floridians headed overseas to protect Americans and prevent an escalating conflict. And I’m praying for peace. These heroes put their lives in danger to defend our nation and we cannot thank them enough for their sacrifice and their service. We must recognize the dangers and threats that our world faces today, and we must always stand together, united, to defend freedom and democracy.
Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Ted Cruz and colleagues to introduce a resolution honoring the members of the military and intelligence community who carried out the successful mission that killed terrorist Qasem Soleimani. Read more from Senator Cruz's office HERE.
