NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,
This week, I sat down with VA Secretary Robert Wilkie and met with local county commissioners to discuss issues that are important to North Florida. Please read about my week below: Working to Fix the VA On Tuesday, I sat down with Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie and discussed the implementation of the VA MISSION Act. President Trump signed the VA MISSION Act of 2018 into law last year and it was formally put into place on June 6th of this year. The VA MISSION Act builds upon the success of the VA Choice Program by streamlining community care programs so a veteran can access care from a provider outside of the VA when they need to.
Local County Commissioners in Washington
This week, County Commissioners from across the Second District traveled to Washington to discuss ways the federal government can do a better job of working with local governments. I was able to sit down with Levy County Commissioners Matt Brooks and John Meeks along with Wakulla County Commissioner Ralph Thomas to discuss storm water issues in North Florida. We talked about the issue of sewage spills in Georgia affecting the Suwannee River, as well as reauthorizing FEMA flood maps, expanding rural broadband, and veterans’ access to healthcare.
I also met with Washington County Commissioner Tray Hawkins and County Administrator Jeff Massey. We discussed disaster recovery and economic development in Washington County. Our local county commissioners are doing a great job advocating for North Florida and I appreciate hearing from them.

Constituent Casework CornerWhile serving in the United States Air Force, a constituent started paying into a Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity account. In the beginning of this year, the constituent was concerned with a statement received reflecting the number of payments the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) said was made to the SBP and requested their account be audited. After making this request three separate times with no response, the constituent contacted my office. We were able to work with DFAS to have the audit completed that fully addressed the constituent’s concerns.
