NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT Dear Friend, This week, House Democrats launched a baseless impeachment inquiry into President Trump, I introduced legislation to combat bribes the VA union is offering new employees, and fought for North Florida farmers. Please read about my week below: Trump Impeachment Inquiry [Click the photo to hear my thoughts on the impeachment inquiry] This week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in Congress once again jumped to conclusions in an effort to bring down President Trump. Speaker Pelosi has finally laid her cards on the table with the opening of a baseless impeachment inquiry. For once she is being honest about the Democrats’ agenda of taking down President Trump at all costs. For months the House has repeatedly voted on do-nothing bills solely to target the president – accomplishing nothing of substance – instead of tackling the issues that are facing hardworking Americans. Democrats want to waste time and money bowing down to the progressive wing of their party and continue the witch hunt against President Trump.  VA Workplace Integrity ActRecently, I learned that new hires at the Department of Veterans Affairs are often approached immediately by  American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) union representatives and offered $100 dollars cash to join the union on the spot. This undue influence combined with the pressure to join an organization during the first few days of employment make it difficult for these public servants to make informed decisions about union membership. In response to this, I introduced H.R. 4503, the VA Workplace Integrity Act, to combat the use of financial incentives to pressure federal employees into joining unions. Manipulating new federal employees at the VA to join a union with a $100 bribe as they walk in the door is unethical. This legislation will prohibit the practice of using financial incentives to secure new memberships, allowing employees at the VA the time and space to make an independent decision on their individual union participation. Fighting for Farmers Devastated by Hurricane Michael Last year, Hurricane Michael absolutely devastated North Florida and caused extensive damage across the Southeast resulting in over $2 Billion in losses to the timber crop alone. In Florida, these losses amount to 87% of the total agriculture loss for the state. While the supplemental disaster funding provided funding for our farmers, there is still more to be done. This week, I joined Rep. Austin Scott in introducing the WHIP Extension Act (H.R.4496). This bill will provide an additional $1.5 billion in aid for agricultural producers affected by 2018 and 2019 disasters. Secretary Perdue has the monumental task of rebuilding agricultural economies across the Southeast after two devastating hurricane seasons. We in Congress need to ensure he has the flexibility to use any unused resources available. I’m grateful to partner with Rep. Austin Scott and other members across the country to help get the job done. Click here to learn more. Verizon 5G in Panama CityIt's official - Verizon has launched 5G in Panama City. After Hurricane Michael, Verizon made a commitment to help us rebuild and this week they followed through. Panama City is the first 5G city in Florida and one of the first 30 in the country. Earlier this year, I joined  Andrea Caldini, Verizon East Field Network Vice President and representatives from Verizon on a tour of Panama City. We spent time visiting sites where the new technology poles would be installed and spoke about the economic impact this will have on the community. As one of the few cities in the U.S. that now has this new 5G technology, Panama City will surely attract new businesses over the next several years. Thank you to all who worked to make this happen! My office was able to contact the Department of State to check on the status of the pending application and it was determined the file had actually been ready for adjudication for several months.
