NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend,We have been in constant contact with federal, state, and local leaders about Hurricane Dorian. It is imperative that everyone remain vigilant and make necessary preparations. We are praying for all who are in the path of the storm. You can follow the latest news and see what resources are available here:https://www.floridadisaster. Please read about my week below: Local Green Beret's Open Distillery Last weekend, I had the honor of meeting retired Green Beret Billy Howell, Jr. and Merrick Mirabella with American Freedom Distillery and presenting them with my challenge coin. After 9/11, the United States responded with the insertion of Green Berets mounted on horseback into remote parts of Afghanistan. These brave men were nicknamed the Horse Soldiers and are honored by the America’s Response Monument at Ground Zero. Each bottle that American Freedom Distillery produces has a picture of the statue allowing them to continue honoring their fellow Horse Soldiers. I thank these brave men for their service and applaud their entrepreneurial pursuits. Jackson County Spirit of Enterprise Award I was honored to attend the Legislative Luncheon in Marianna this week where I was presented with the “Spirit of Enterprise” Award. I will continue to fight for our business owners throughout the Second Congressional District of Florida. Many thanks to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce for hosting this event. This past July, I had the humbling opportunity of recognizing Edd Sorenson on the House Floor for his life saving diving rescues and recoveries. Edd has brought closure to so many families across the United Stated and just recently in the Dominican Republic. What an honor to meet this hero and recognize him in front of his community during the Legislative Luncheon in Marianna. Calhoun Recovery Meeting On Monday, I met with Kristy Terry and Kevin Yoder of the North Florida Inland Long Term Recovery Group. This recovery group has been working very hard for Calhoun and Jackson County since Hurricane Michael hit. You can check out their website at northfloridarecovery.org.
Farm Credit Meeting
Thank you to the Farm Credit of Northwest Florida for all of your hard work on behalf of the farmers throughout the second district. I enjoyed meeting with you all and gaining additional insight on the challenges you have faced following Hurricane Michael. Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Association Luncheon Earlier this week, I was welcomed as the guest speaker for the Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Advocates (NEBA) monthly luncheon in Tallahassee. I enjoyed sharing a recap of the legislative accomplishments and hurdles from the 115th Congress and the legislative priorities for our current 116th Congress. Thank you to the NEBA president and members for a great discussion! Columbia County Inmate Search Thank you to Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter for allowing me to participate in a hunt for an escaped inmate this week. I was absolutely amazed at the professionalism shown by Sheriff Hunter, his staff, and the Florida Department of Corrections who assisted in the hunt utilizing their K9 Unit from Baker Correctional Institution. Enviva Biomass Plant I also toured the Enviva Biomass wood pellet plant in Cottondale this week. Regional Manager Mark Haser showed me how they produce the wood pellets that are exported for international use out of the Port of Panama City. The Cottondale plant opened in 2008 and has the capacity to produce 700K metric tons per year. Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Congress!
Sincerely, Dr. Neal Dunn Member of Congress |
