Six establishment Senate Republicans flip-flopped on their pledge to repeal Obamacare on Wednesday.
Sens. Dean Heller (R-NV), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), John McCain (R-AZ), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Rob Portman (R-OH), and Susan Collins (R-ME) voted against Sen. Paul’s clean Obamacare repeal bill. All of these senators except for Sen. Collins voted to rescind Obamacare in 2015.
FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon called out the Senate’s six hypocrites. Brandon charged, “Our activists have fought for the better part of a decade, led on by campaign promises and actual votes to repeal Obamacare, to get Republican majorities in the House and Senate, as well as a Republican in the White House. Sens. Dean Heller, Lisa Murkowski, John McCain, Rob Portman, Shelley Moore Capito, and Lamar Alexander each voted for the very same bill in 2015. We now know that these six senators are Obamacare repeal frauds. Even though we’re still wondering if Sen. Susan Collins is in the right party, at least she was consistent with her vote.” Read more here...

The fix is in. Did you know, corporations like General Electric Co. (GE) spend more money on lobbyists than they pay in taxes?
The federal government currently taxes corporations at 35 percent. While many argue the rate is too high, you don’t hear companies like GE complaining about it. That’s because they aren’t paying it. Over the past 15 years, GE’s federal income tax rate averaged only 5.2 percent. General Electric paid no federal taxes in 2010, despite earning $5.1 billion in U.S. profits. Instead, the company claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.
Meanwhile, GE executives awarded themselves more than $75 million in compensation and paid lobbyists a total of $39 million that same year- all while laying off their own employees. How was this possible? It was an inside job. General Electric’s tax planning team includes former employees from the Treasury, IRS, and congressional tax-writing committees. GE doesn’t have a tax compliance team, it has a tax defiance team. Read more here...

Ted Cruz: Voters Will Feel 'Sense of Betrayal' Over ObamaCare Failure- via Washington Examiner
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, warned that the Republican failure to pass a bill to repeal parts of Obamacare will disappoint Republican voters around the country who were told the GOP was going to dismantle the law.
"There are going to be a great many Americans who tonight feel a sense of betrayal, feel a sense of betrayal that politicians stood up and made a promise," Cruz said early Friday morning.
"I tell you this, if you stand up and campaign and say we're going to repeal Obamacare, and you vote for Obamacare, those are not consistent," he said. "And the American people are entirely justified in saying, 'any politician who told me that and voted the other way didn't tell me the truth. They lied to me.'" Read more here...

State Licensing Laws Are Mostly Awful; Sen. Mike Lee Might Have a Solution- via Reason
State licensing laws are a mess. They limit the freedom, opportunities, and happiness of American workers—particularly those on the lower end of the economic scale.
These are the laws that say a woman in Louisiana can't earn a living by threading eyebrows unless she takes 750 hours of classes in unrelated beauty skills and passes a state exam. The laws that say it's illegal to get paid to talk about the history of Charleston, South Carolina.
In some cases, though, these laws themselves might be illegal. The Supreme Court in 2014 overturned a North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners ban on non-dentists offering teeth whitening services. The ruling opened the door to lawsuits against state-level licensing boards that behave like private-sector monopolies by enforcing anti-competitive rules against their very own potential competitors.
