MESSAGE: (write your own message). Vote NO on AB43. Do not raise our property taxes.
IDEAS:
-This bill changes that formula for determining property taxes by removing the current cap
so your county can raise your property taxes. This is done by removing
the partial abatement of property taxes which has the effect of
establishing a cap on property taxes. AB43 was brought by the
Association of Counties to allow them to raise your property taxes.
-For
most workers real wages have barely budged for decades. In other words
even though in dollars wages have gone up, purchasing power has not
increased.
- Today's average hourly wage has just about the same purchasing power as it did in 1979.
-The
average family pays 60% of its income in federal, state, and local
taxes (many hidden taxes) which is more than they pay for housing,
health care, transportation, education, and food combined.
-What about those on fixed income...will they lose their homes as property taxes continue to rise?

Explanation from Legislative Counsel Bureau: This
bill revises the formula for calculating the partial abatement so that
the annual cap on increases of the property taxes cannot be less than 3
percent. (Now it can be zero). Under this bill, the annual cap on
increases of property taxes on any other property cannot be less than a
percentage that is the greater of: (1) the average percentage of change
in the assessed valuation of property in the county over the last 10
years or twice the average percentage of increase in the Consumer Price
Index for the 10 calendar years preceding the fiscal year in which the
tax levy is made, whichever is greater; or three percent.
