On one side of this ObamaCare
issue are conservatives and conservative organizations such as the House
Freedom Caucus and Club for Growth that opposed House Speaker Paul Ryan’s “ObamaCare Lite” version of
repeal-and-replace, arguing, essentially, that it did neither.
On the other hand you have
conservatives such as Grover Norquist
of Americans for Tax Reform who supported taking what they could get and advancing
the ball ten yards at a time rather than throwing a “Hail Mary.”
The argument isn’t so much over
philosophy, but strategy. It’s the same
fight that occurred over increasing the debt limit and “sequestration” a couple
years back.
But what I find REALLY
interesting are various news reports that Donald Trump WANTED to have a public vote
on Ryan’s plan to identify, on the record, those who opposed it - but Ryan
refused.
Look, these people are elected to
do one thing: Vote. And all too often in
the past GOP leaders like Ryan have protected their weak-link members by blocking
public votes that could put them in political jeopardy with conservatives.
You can run from a vote, but you
can’t run from a recorded vote.
Now, I’m not exactly thrilled
that the first opportunity for Trump to “out” congress-critters on a difficult,
controversial issue involves conservatives.
But if he’s willing to call out the Freedom Caucus folks, that means he’ll
do it to the mushy moderates later. And
that’s something that’s LONG overdue.
Give ‘em hell, Donald!

NEVADA NEWS & VIEWS
Nevada’s new Democrat state Senate leaders are doing a
marvelous job championing and propagandizing trivial, meaningless “show”
legislation so far this session. But this
week they also did a marvelous job embarrassing themselves with major-league,
ham-handed flip-flops.
First, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Ford was caught being for a bill sponsored by accidental
State Sen. Yvanna Cancela
(D-Culinary Union) to make Nevada a “sanctuary state” before realizing it could
hurt his electoral chances at becoming the next attorney general. As such, he used his power and the Grand
Imperial Senate Pooh-bah to kill a bill he co-sponsored.
Derp.
Secondly, Assistant Majority Leader and Commerce Committee
Chairman Kelvin Atkinson got caught trying to introduce anonymously through his committee an absolutely
absurd bill requiring Uber drivers to wait 15 minutes before picking up
customers, and then flip-flopping and killing the bill his own committee
introduced just 48 hours later.
After being ridiculed royally for the sheer stupidity of the
bill, Atkinson went totally into full “Simon Peter” mode: “What bill?
I don’t know no bill. That was
somebody else’s bill.”
Profiles in courage, let alone competence, this duo ain’t.

The Oakland Raiders are coming to Vegas. And that means some potential competition between
major-league sporting events. Here’s how
two executives handled the new reality this week…
“Let me be quick to say we are ecstatic about the Raiders coming to town,” Chris Powell, president of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, even though there’s the potential for a Sunday Raiders’ game conflicting with his new fall NASCAR race somewhere in the future.
