So I get a call last week from an old friend and former chairman
of the Michigan Republican Party, Saul
Anuzis.
Saul is doing some work for the Institute for Research on Presidential
Elections and asked if I’d be willing to cover for Nevada News & Views a seminar/roundtable to discuss the
National Popular Vote Compact in Panama City on February 9-12th.
Since I have friends who live just an hour north in
Marianna, Florida, I thought this would be a great opportunity for a visit and
readily accepted the invite.
Saul informed me that we’d be having dinner with the group
on Thursday night, be in meetings all day Friday and do a little sight-seeing
on Saturday…including a trip to see the canal.
Wait. Canal?
Yeah. Get this: Apparently
there’s another Panama City in…Panama.
Where the Panama Canal is. Who
knew? :)
Oops. And…uh-oh. I don’t have a passport.
Never fear, the free-market is here. And for a princely price, I’m able to obtain
a passport from a private courier service in time to make the trip to the land
of Panama hats. Can’t wait to get one
just like McGarrett’s from the original Hawaii
Five-O!
As for the National Popular Vote issue itself, it sounds
reasonable. And two longtime friends and
former Members of Congress – Newt Gingrich
and Bob Barr – are supporting it. However, I live in not only a small state,
but a battleground state. So I have my
reservations and look forward to covering the event.
Take a look at the issue (click here) and
let me know what you think. Shoot your
observations to chuck@citizenoutreach.com.
Cheers.

P.S. Today is the 23rd
anniversary of my sailboat-at-sunset wedding off the coast of Waikiki to the
former Gia Marie Averno of
Baltimore, Maryland; a relationship that has brought us the additional joy of
three wonderful children: Kristen, Jenna
and CJ.
Our secret? I have no
idea. All I know is my family thinks Gia
should be in line for sainthood. I won’t
argue the sentiment. Congrats and/or
condolences can be sent to giamuth@icloud.com.
Happy anniversary, hon!

NEVADA NEWS & VIEWS
I attended an anti-Trump public therapy session for liberal buttercups
and snowflakes at UNLV last night billed as “A Town Hall Event Engaging Our
Future.”
KLAS TV 8 anchor Christianne
Klein interviewed me live during the event for the 6 o’clock newscast and
asked what I thought about what I was hearing from inside the room. That was easy.
Listening to these folks suffering from TDS (Trump
Derangement Syndrome) reminded me of something Ronald Reagan once said; that it wasn’t that liberals were
ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so. And the beat goes one…
In other Nevada news, Las Vegas gaming mogul Steve Wynn has been tapped as Finance
Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Considering the vitriolic past between Wynn and Donald Trump, this is yet another
testament to the old adage that there are no permanent friends and no permanent
enemies in politics. And maybe, just
maybe, this augurs well for holding the 2020 Republican National Convention for
Trump’s re-election in Sin City.

On Tuesday, Las Vegas Sands owner Sheldon Adelson pulled out of the effort to relocate the Oakland
Raiders football team to Las Vegas. And
it shouldn’t have come as a surprise.
Mr. Adelson didn’t get where he is today – one of the
richest men in the world – by making bad deals.
And it was well-known from the get-go that this stadium deal wasn’t
exactly the most lucrative opportunity for the Adelson family to invest $650
million into. But they wanted to do it because
they believed a world-class domed stadium was important to the future of Las
Vegas.
So when the Raiders insisted on a deal that was even worse
than the marginal deal originally conceived – and the Raiders had announced
they could and would go forward without him - Mr. Adelson opted to step away
and put his time, effort and money into something else with a better expected
return on investment.
That’s business.
The funny part about this is that the unhinged opposition to
the stadium deal really had nothing to do with the Raiders or the public
financing aspect of the deal, but rather the Adelson family involvement. Liberals despise Mr. Adelson because he dared
to open a resort on the Strip without the “benefit” of the Culinary Union
mucking up the works.
Well, they don’t have Sheldon Adelson to kick around
anymore. What’s their beef gonna be now?
