**House Committee Passes Education Bill Sponsored by Dr. Heck**

      As the father of three and the first person in his family to attend college, Joe knows the challenges Nevadans face when it comes to affording the high cost of college tuition. That’s why this week the House Committee on Education and the Workforce advanced bipartisan legislation introduced by Joe to help parents and students better navigate the federal financial aid system. H.R. 5528, the Simplifying the Application for Student Aid Act reforms the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) making it easier than ever to complete while adding safeguards to ensure the aid goes to those who really need it. The bill was crafted with input from local education leaders in Nevada. The next stop, a vote on the House floor where the bill is expected to pass.

**First Class Candidate**

This week John Ralston, writing in his column for the Reno Gazette-Journal assessed the state of the race here in Nevada, particularly as it relates to the Republicans running for office. Speaking of the Senate race, we believe Ralston said it best, writing it is a “Heck of a year,” and that “Joe Heck is a first-class candidate who has been in plenty of tough races.” Ralston goes on to state that “the race will be close, but Heck’s experience and toughness could be the difference.”

Ralston isn’t the first to acknowledge that Joe is one of the strongest candidates of the cycle. Here are what others are saying:

“Many Republicans consider Heck — a doctor and brigadier general in the Army Reserves —the party’s best Senate recruit, in part because he thrice won a battleground House district that includes many of the Las Vegas suburbs.” (Roll Call, June 14)

"This seat is essential. It is going to be one of the most watched seats in the country. It is the only one that the Democrats could lose in November and so they need to protect it." (NPR, June 23)

For 25 years, Joe Heck has served Nevada as a doctor, small business owner, legislator, and soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served three tours of active duty, including Iraq where Dr. Heck ran the emergency services and aeromedical evacuation section of a combat support hospital. In 2014, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. Dr. Heck has served Nevada's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2011.
