Candidate Donald Trump fired a subtle shot toward
Hillary Clinton and her traditional constituency today by pointing out
some insurgent support amid the Teamsters Union. The strategy behind
this seemingly odd ‘out-of-left-field‘ shot is actually quite brilliant:
As
with almost everything Trump messages, the element of uncomfortable
truth comes directly to the surface. Because the inherent disposition
of the opponent is to avoid talking truthfully and directly (see: own the downside), the discomfort is directly felt by them.
An earlier NPR article highlighted
an interview with a Teamsters union member who pointed out their
leadership is precariously stuck between a rock and a Trump place. The
Union leadership beholden to historic Democrat political relationships,
yet the rank-and-file membership support the America First economic
message of Donald Trump.
Indeed there are several Teamsters Facebook pages for Donald Trump support within the union. Example HERE and Example HERE.
With
Donald Trump taking on Hillary Clinton directly, he is simultaneously
firing kill shots into the formerly guaranteed (taken for granted) camps
of supporters. This is masterful insurgency and non-linear
campaigning.
In
addition to directly confronting Hillary Clinton, Trump is
creating simultaneous battle-fronts that must be defended by her
campaign. If Clinton moves to say her policy is better for the union,
Trump simply responds with the: “are you better off now than you were
seven years ago” argument. And obviously Clinton is transparently tied
to TPP despite her protestations to the contrary.
Lastly,
something to note – Pay close attention to how the media rolls out this
specific “blue collar” story. We are about to see what approach the
MSM intend to take in an effort to protect their preferred candidate,
Hillary Clinton.
