Obama Spits in Faces of USS Cole Survivors, Victims’ Families, US Navy

Obama released another GITMO detainee, Abdallah Ahmed al Sabri, whom Department of Defense officials believed to have been part of the al-Qaeda cell behind the USS Cole attack. Officials describe al Sabri, “a member of an Yememi al-Qaeda cell which was directly involved with the 2000 USS COLE attack.”

In 2008, Obama met with the commander of the USS Cole and USS Cole victims’ family members, promising that he would deliver “swift and certain” action against Guantanamo detainees. In 2014, Obama described al Sabri as merely an al-Qaeda “associate” who “probably did not play a significant role in terrorist operations.” Now, al Sabri is in Saudi Arabia.

According to Fox News, “the man at the helm of the USS Cole when it was attacked” said the release of al Sabri “denies justice to the 17 people killed aboard the ship.” The ship’s commanding officer, Kirk Lippold, told Fox News that his release was a mistake. He said,

“I would have liked to have seen him receive a military commission where he was tried, convicted and sentenced and then his suitability for release determined under the laws of armed conflict. From the perspective of the American people and my crew, he’s never been held accountable.”

Rusty Weiss of MentalRecession.com, points out that Obama’s ability to appear convincingly forthright, is something victims’ family members have mentioned.

He writes, John Clodfelter, whose son was killed in the USS Cole bombing, revealed much about Obama’s ability to convince people of his intentions in a statement to The New York Times after their 2008 meeting: “The way he talks to you, you can’t help but believe in him.”

Debra Burlingame, sister of Charles F. “Chic” Burlingame III, the pilot of American Airlines flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, wrote in The Wall Street Journal that Obama had deceived those families. She wrote:

“Given all the developments since our meeting with the President, it is now evident that his words bore no relation to his intended actions....”

“We’d been had.”

No justice for USS Cole victims, their families or the US Navy. Just for a suspected terrorist. Obama’s change and hope appears only to apply to Islamic terrorists, not patriotic Americans.
