Hey Conservatives!
1. Fiscal Discipline Can't Wait - by Rep. Jim Jordan via limaohio.com
In life, the sooner you get about fixing a problem, the easier it is
to solve. The longer you put it off, the more dramatic and drastic
measures you have to take.
The same holds true for problems facing the country. That’s why a
number of us conservatives in Congress oppose the current budget plan
being proposed in the House of Representatives.
Since the beginning of the year, conservatives have called for a budget
that reflects the will of the American people. This means a budget that
begins to address the problem of Washington’s out-of-control borrowing
and spending. Read more here...

3. Two Scoops of Hypocrisy - by Mallory Reader
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream were
arrested while protesting at the Democracy Awakening demonstration
Monday. They were just 2 of the 1,400 leftists arrested for unlawful
demonstration activities. The founders of the Vermont-based ice cream
company have yet to comment, but the organization released a statement
on their webpage defending the two and bragging about their political
involvements in the past. The Democracy Awakening weekend-long protest
focused around sweeping money out of politics so that “one person, one
vote” is the only means of influencing government.
Let the hypocrisy begin.
Ben & Jerry’s has been notorious for using the brand as a
political platform to speak out on social issues. When the Supreme Court
ruled to recognize same-sex marriages, the ice cream lovers renamed
their chocolate chip cookie dough flavor to “I Dough, I Dough.” To
advocate for climate change, they introduced a new flavor
called “Save Our Swirled” with the slogan “If it’s melted, it’s
ruined”. In support of Senator Bernie Sanders presidential campaign,
Cohen made 40 pints of ice cream called “Bernie’s Yearning”. It is mint
flavored and topped with a single, giant chocolate chip to represent
“all the wealth that’s gone to the top 1% over the past 10 years”. In
true socialist fashion, Cohen suggested to eat it one should whack it
with a spoon to break up the chocolate chip, and then mix it around. A
symbolic redistribution of wealth. Read more here...
4. Asset Forfeiture Reform Signed into Law in Nebraska - by Joseph Donoso
This past Tuesday,
Nebraska made history when Governor Pete Ricketts signed LB 1106 into
law, completely reforming the state’s asset forfeiture system. In doing
so, Nebraska has become the 10th state
to require a conviction before property can be seized. What’s more, the
reforms are so sweeping that Nebraska has become the third state,
following New Mexico and North Carolina, to essentially disband its
civil asset forfeiture system, a great boon for innocent citizens and
private property.
As mentioned, LB 1106, first introduced by State Senator Tommy
Garrett, enacted a number of major reforms to the state’s asset
forfeiture system. All cases must now be preceded by a criminal
conviction, ensuring that innocent citizens don’t have to suffer from
having their property illegally apprehended. Furthermore, the state has
the burden of proof in finding evidence that the property was involved
in criminal activities. Throughout the case, proper documentation must
be upheld and made public, maintaining transparency. Read more here...
5. Bernie Sanders May Have a Home in the Democratic Party But Socialism Has No Place in America
Following a report
that Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described “democratic socialist,” will
remain a Democrat after his bid for the party’s presidential
nomination, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:
“This just goes to show how far to the left the Democratic Party has
drifted. Americans need only look to European governments that are
either run by socialists or are experiencing the negative effects of
policies put in place by them. These countries – which include France,
Greece, and Spain – are plagued by weak economic growth, crippling debt,
and high unemployment.”
“Americans should be upset by cronyist policies that lead to
bailouts, subsidies, and other policies that pick winners and losers in
the marketplace. But the European-style socialist welfare state that
Democrats want can’t be paid for with unicorns and fairy dust. It will
consume resources that will bring economic growth to a grinding halt,
destroy jobs, and rob future generations of opportunity. Sanders’ brand
of socialism may have a home in the Democratic Party, but it has no
place in America.” Read more here...
