Fellow Conservatives: Republican businessman Matt Bevin – the man who dared to challenge Senator Mitch McConnell in the Republican primary last year – was elected as the next Governor of Kentucky yesterday. This flips the governorship from Democrat to Republican, and elects a true conservative with a bold plan to cut taxes, shrink government, repeal Common Core, fix the pension system, repeal the state's Obamacare exchange, and to fight the federal government's war on the states. This is a major victory for liberty and you deserve some of the credit. Matt Bevin was massively outspent in this race – both in the primary and the general elections – and he would not have won without the base of support SCF helped him build in Kentucky last year when he ran for the Senate. Senator McConnell ran millions of dollars of TV ads smearing Bevin with false attacks and he vowed to "crush" him. He also said he wanted to "punch" SCF "in the nose" for supporting Bevin and then pulled a page out of Obama's IRS playbook and forced the national party committees to blacklist conservative firms that did work for SCF. But you didn't back down. You stood strong and supported Bevin anyway. McConnell won the Senate primary, but now, a year later, Bevin has been elected governor – even after the Democrats recycled McConnell's false attacks against him. And Bevin did it while employing Jamestown Associates, the ad firm that McConnell blacklisted last year! Now, that is sweet justice. This is a great reminder that we're in a long-term battle and even if a good candidate loses a race ... they may win the next one! We're grateful for the many SCF members who supported Matt Bevin last year and who continue to fight for principled leadership in this country. Your efforts are making a real difference. Sincerely, Ken Cuccinelli II President Senate Conservatives Fund @KenCuccinelli / @SCF Share on Facebook and Twitter. |
