There are just a few days remaining in the 2015 Colorado Legislative session.
But this year isn't over yet.
The political class is furious RMGO members and supporters have caused such an uproar in Colorado politics over the past few years, so they're making a last minute push to drown you out and shut us up.
This time they're trying to eliminate your ability to nominate a pro-gun Presidential Candidate by ramming through a last-minute bill.
The bill is Senate Bill 287 and it could be called the "Clinton-Bush Coronation Act."
Senate Bill 287 would gut Colorado's Presidential nomination process to ensure the political elite control which anti-gunners represent both parties choices for the highest office in the land.
The goal is to make it impossible for grassroots and pro-gun activists to organize in support of a pro-gun presidential Candidate, and allow wealthy party consultants call all the shots.
It would also make it much more difficult to expose a candidates past support for gun control.
You might be asking why would they want to do this.
I believe the reason is simple: Control.
When the current "rules" aren't working for the political class -- when ordinary citizens begin causing ripples in "the way politics is done" -- those same consultants want to change them.
After all, that's what happened after the 2012 Presidential Primary process.
If you were at the Colorado Republican State Assembly, you may remember when party bosses, big-wigs, and lawyers tried to shout down pro-gun voices.
They were so mad at pro-gun activists for showing up in droves they even bent the assembly rules and deployed fake "delegate slates" in effort to fool assembly goers into supporting pro-gun control candidates.
Let me tell you, it was one of the most blatant con-jobs in Colorado politics, and thankfully assembly goers saw right through it.
They know grassroots activists like you are showing up at caucuses and assemblies in record numbers, and that's why they're seeking more control in 2016.
If passed, SB15-287 would:
*** Gut the Precinct Caucuses in
Colorado, where pro-gun activists like you have a chance to hold Presidential Candidates accountable by running to be delegates to the
Republican or Democratic National Conventions.
*** Replace it with a "quasi-open" Presidential Primary which, for example, would allow anti-gun non-Republicans
to hijack the Party's Primary to choose the parties presidential nominee.
*** Give the party bosses tremendous influence
over who the delegates to the Republican or
Democratic National Conventions are or who they vote for by "binding"
them to the results of the primary, without any fallback plan for
what happens if a candidate drops out after the vote.
*** Allow the whole process to be conducted by mail, exposing the whole primary to the prospects of even more fraud
instigated by our anti-gun enemies.
But the
real question is who benefits from this massive rewrite of Colorado election law? The answer is the most establishment-backed and wealthy political candidates.
More often than not, they are NOT fans of the Second Amendment.
I'm talking about gun-grabbers like Chris Christie, or Hillary Clinton who have spent years and millions of dollars schmoozing their respective party's elite in order to curry favor for possible White House runs.
Mark my words, after the Washington-based consultants in both parties pick their horses in the coming months, they will seek to abuse this proposed law to drown out Second Amendment supporters.
You see, after the 2012 experience, party bosses and consultants learned they're going to have to do something if they want to block a pro-gun candidate from succeeding in 2016.
And after they lost miserably in states like Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, and Maine, they embarked on a plan to eliminate these caucus states entirely.
As a delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention, I saw this first hand on the RNC Rule Committee how they moved to punish states like Colorado that have vibrant pro-gun grassroots bases.
They'd love nothing better than to sit back in their cushy chairs and dump a bunch of money to buy the nomination.
After all, they hate flying to Colorado and actually working to earn the support of liberty-loving activists.
An opportunity to disenfranchise activists by side-stepping you would be a dream come true to those who don't want to have to answer serious questions about your Second Amendment rights.
If we are ever going to have another pro-gun President in our lifetime, defeating Senate Bill 287 here in Colorado is vital.
The good news is all we need to do is run out the clock the legislature will be done for the year later this week.
That's why I hope I can count on you to call the following lawmakers.
Urge them to oppose SB15-287, the "Clinton-Bush Coronation Act" and leave Colorado's current Presidential election law alone.
