Dear Conservatives, Last weekend your U.S. Senator Dean Heller faced a serious test of his word when it comes to the anti-gun provisions of the "Patriot Act" when he cast two key votes. Unfortunately, it's a mixed verdict. Senator Heller voted FOR the so-called "USA Freedom Act" that would extend anti-gun "Patriot Act" sections. In doing so, he also voted against Senator Rand Paul's filibuster. Fortunately, that vote was not successful -- but they'll be voting again this Sunday. Please take a moment to call Senator Heller at 702-388-6605. Urge him to reverse course and OPPOSE any bill that would renew anti-gun "Patriot Act" sections. Insist he stand up with pro-gun U.S. Senator Rand Paul by joining his filibuster of the "Patriot Act". Let Senator Heller know you want the "Patriot Act" to expire completely, and allowing it to be extended without debate and without Senator Paul's amendments is unacceptable. After you've called, please sign your EMERGENCY FAX petition to him by clicking here. Senator Heller's vote is concerning. Without a full debate followed by the adoption of Senator Rand Paul's pro-gun and pro-freedom amendments, the "USA Freedom Act" does NOT end the threat to gun owners. It just shifts bulk phone data collection from the NSA to companies while allowing it to continue. Private information on all Americans would still be collected and made available to the Federal government -- and this includes gun owners. Worse, it even could be used to justify the collection of "firearm sales records" into a national gun registry! The U.S. Senate only has a few days left before these anti-gun provisions expire. Senators will return to Washington on Sunday with just hours to either act or let the law expire. And all eyes are on Senator Heller. You see, Senator Dean Heller promised to stand up for freedom, and reign in Barack Obama's unconstitutional overreaches in the past. He even answered his NAGR candidate survey last year promising not to reauthorize the "Patriot Act" without added protections for gun owners. And while he did vote against a two month renewal of the Patriot Act this weekend, his vote for the "USA Freedom Act" does not live up to expectations. He can do better this weekend if he hears from you and joins Rand Paul's efforts. That's why it's vital you take a moment to share your thoughts with Senator Heller before this important vote.
