Back in 2011, I wrote an article titled “300 Foot Tsunami And East Coast Destruction” regarding the possibility that a catastrophic volcanic eruption and subsequent marine (and/or submarine) landslide of one of the Canary Islands collapsing into the ocean in the Eastern Atlantic could lead to a mega-tsunami that travels across the Atlantic and devastates the East Coast of the United States. Whether it is El Hierro or La Palma that slides into the ocean, there are many opinions of the probable outcomes of such a scenario, and there are many who believe that the result could be a mega tsunami that reaches heights up to 300 feet by the time it rolls up the shoreline of the East Coast United States. So here’s the question… “IF” a 300 foot tsunami reached the East Coast, how far inland would it go? The short answer, and one that many may think to be accurate, is that it will go inland until the elevation of the land is higher than the tsunami. While that sounds logical, there are variables… Actually, the distance a tsunami will travel inland has more to do with the energy it still has left as it hits the shore. A tsunami will speed across the ocean at hundreds of miles an hour but at a relatively small height (because the ocean is DEEP). Its speed decreases as it approaches the shoreline (because the ground beneath it is getting shallower) but its energy begins to transfer to its monstrous HEIGHT. When the speed of the wave approaches zero, the wave breaks, much of its energy is released and it will not go too much further. Chinese President Xi Jinping's two-day visit to Pakistan has been replete with flowery rhetoric extolling mutual love between both countries, but the name chosen for a new joint think tank has left some social media users in titters. Dedicated to research on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a $46 billion dollar plan linking China's restive west to the Arabian Sea, the newly inaugurated Research and Development International (RANDI) organisation has been widely pilloried because its acronym sounds like "whore" in Urdu and Hindi. Social media users, including many from India -- Islamabad and Beijing's historic rival -- have latched on to name as a form of commentary on Sino-Pak relations, saying the South Asian country has now been 'bought' by China. "Well, that's an unfortunate name for a think tank..." tweeted Fatima Bhutto, a writer and political activist, in one of the more understated responses. "#Pakistan is now officially #China's #RANDI," said another user Chandan Sandhu. Others criticised those who ridiculed the name and accused them of misogyny, as a cartoon circulated on Twitter portraying Pakistan as a prostitute and China as a punter. Siberia Wildfire Toll Rises to 34

Raging wildfires in Siberia in recent weeks killed 34 people, the emergencies minister said Tuesday in a new toll as President Vladimir Putin visited the stricken region. "To date, 34 people have died in southern Siberia," Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov told Putin in a meeting to address the disaster. Another 77 were hospitalized, some with serious burns. The minister blamed farmers for setting dry grass alight, with weather conditions causing the fire to spread across several massive areas in recent weeks. The fires have destroyed about 2,000 homes, Putin said, as he announced financial assistance for those affected, pledging their houses would be rebuilt by September. Norway First Country to End FM Radio
Steely Dan, the jazz-rockers who scored a hit in 1978 with their single "FM (No Static At All)," would not be pleased. In what will likely be the opening move in a global transition to digital radio, Norway has announced it will shut down its FM band. Norway will start turning off FM radio on Jan. 11, 2017, and plans to stop transmission of the last FM signal to the country's northernmost regions by Dec. 13 of that year. The announcement, made by their Ministry of Culture, makes Norway the first country to do away entirely with FM radio. FDA Questions Validity of Homeopathic Theories Established in 1700s

Twenty-seven years ago the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) resolved not to demand homeopathic medicine be held to the same standards of approval process as drug companies who want to sell medical treatments. The agency’s stance on homeopathic treatments was to “allow these drugs to come to the market without premarket approval.” This was largely based on a document produced over 215 years ago called the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia which listed various substances as legitimate. The FDA has basically allowed the sale of any product listed on this document that is protected by the homeopathic industry. In 2015, this might all change. The FDA announced they will hold “a public hearing to obtain information and comments from stakeholders about the current use of human drug and biological products labeled as homeopathic, as well as the Agency’s regulatory framework for such products.” According to certified homeopathic doctor Dana Ullman, “homeopathic medicine has its own sophisticated system of using substances from the plant, mineral, chemical, and animal kingdoms.” [...]

Suppose it was discovered that thousands of bridges around the US were in imminent danger of collapsing? Not because maintenance and repair were lacking, not because the materials used to build them were cheap and shoddy. But because the original designs were inadequate and broke basic rules of engineering. Suppose five or six major manufacturers built their automobiles so the vast majority of power derived from the engines was transferred to one wheel? In other words, the science itself is fraudulent.
This revelation, above all, is what the medical cartel tries to guard against. Their profession has shoved in all its chips on the propaganda proposition that it does impeccable science. Science sells. The appearance of it sells. It’s the foundation stone of many industries. Were that stone to crack and shatter, all bets would be off. A titanic fraud would come to light. The kind of fraud that would both freeze people’s minds and blow them away. Science is the most powerful rationalization in the modern world. Consensus reality would fail and disperse without it. To Protect Ourselves From Bioweapons, We May Have to Reinvent Science Itself
Defense one says: getting far better at predicting what research will produce may be the only way to save the world. In January 2012, a team of researchers from the Netherlands and the University of Wisconsin published a paper in the journal Science about airborne transmission of H5N1 influenza, or bird flu, in ferrets. The article changed the way the United States and nations around the world approached manmade biological threats. This was not the researchers’ intent. The team had altered the virus’s amino acid profile, allowing it to reproduce in mammal lungs, which are a bit colder than bird lungs. That small change allowed the virus to be transmitted via coughing and sneezing, and it solved the riddle of how H5N1 became airborne in humans. The U.S. government initially supported the work through grants, but members of Congress, among other critics around the world, responded to the publication of the research with alarm and condemnation. A New York Times editorial described the experiment as an “Engineered Doomsday.” So the researchers agreed to a voluntary moratorium on their findings. In October, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy announced that it would halt funding for research into how to make diseases more lethal — so-called “gain-of-function” studies — and asked anyone doing such research on deadly diseases to cease and desist. "Hopefully, before anything happens, the good guys will get better at new pathogen detection and immunity soon — both to prevent this scenario and naturally emerging infectious diseases."

The advent of three-dimensional (3D) printing has generated a swell of interest in artificial organs meant to replace, or even enhance, human machinery. Printed organs, such as a prototype outer ear developed by researchers at Princeton University in New Jersey and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, was on the agenda at the Inside 3D Printing conference in New York on 15–17 April. The ear is printed from a range of materials: a hydrogel to form an ear-shaped scaffold, cells that will grow to form cartilage, and silver nanoparticles to form an antenna. Printed body parts brought in US$537 million last year, up about 30% on the previous year, says Terry Wohlers, president of Wohlers Associates, a business consultancy firm in Fort Collins, Colorado, that specializes in 3D printing. Scientists are looking ahead to radical emerging technologies that use live cells as ‘ink’, assembling them layer-by-layer into rudimentary tissues, says Jennifer Lewis, a bioengineer at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
