1. Mary Landrieu to Louisiana Voters: I'm Going to Tax Your Online Purchases - by Jason Pye Pelican State voters who took advantage of Cyber Monday deals at their favorite online retailers may have enjoyed their last tax-free Christmas shopping experience, so says Sen. Mary Landrieu. During the final debate before the December 6 Senate runoff in Louisiana, Landrieu made it quite clear that she would once again vote for the so-called "Marketplace Fairness Act," a measure backed by President Barack Obama and powerful special interests that would allow states to collect sales taxes on online purchases from businesses in other states, if she returns to the upper chamber next year. With the most recent round of ObamaCare enrollments about to begin, more Americans will soon be faced with the reality of a growing doctor shortage. The Wall Street Journal reports that, for the first time in two generations, the number of doctors per person is declining, a situation that will result in decreased access to health care and rising costs even beyond what we have already seen. Increasingly, they realize the policies and the arrogance of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have severely retarded our economic growth. Obama, Pelosi and Reid used their enormous power to build their legacies – ObamaCare, redistribution of wealth, pristine environmental practices and the war on carbon. All would be achieved by a bigger and coercive federal government. Initially, they tried a Keynesian stimulus, which was sold as shovel ready and failed. Then, there was the “Cash for Clunkers,” which was another redistribution failure. Read more here... 5. ObamaCare's Costly Menu-Labeling Mandate is Destined to Fail - by Jason Pye The Food and Drug Administration is going to try its hand at shaming consumers into making healthier choices when they go out to eat. Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, the FDA announced a controversial and expansive rule that will require certain establishments with 20 or more locations -- including chain restaurants, grocery and convenience stores, and movie theaters -- to post calorie information on their menus and menu boards. ReplyDeleteOnline sales tax will be collected for the states where shoppers live...most often for tax jurisdictions of big cities. MFA is a big F-U to small towns as much as it is to small businesses who can't afford to pay for services that don't generate sales and take people from their current jobs to become tax experts and data preppers. The govt software only helps if the company has a supported cart system (not likely in most cases) and data is prepped properly and much of that is done by judgement call... hello audits!!! goodbye small business owners!!!
This is quite different than the way it's currently done at the brick/mortar level. (rumor has it, this is intended for b/m stores in the future too!)
Net Neutrality...
Another fancy name that acts opposite of the way it is named. The whole process of government is to compel people, business, services to do what it is that they want or think is best for others, based on often unpopular values or logic. Where is the neutrality with govt. A purer form of neutrality is supply and demand. Prices and services are governed much more neutrally there...based on the needs/wants of the people. That can only be accomplished by having MORE options not LESS. Govt will limit options, control services, and demand prices equal to their whims, not to the wants/needs/desires of the people.
