House Passes Bipartisan Legislation To Protect Americans From ObamaCare
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader
Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement on three pieces of
legislation that remove punitive mandates under ObamaCare that punish
volunteers, veterans, and those with certain sincerely held religious
beliefs:
“We all know ObamaCare is not working, but the bottom line
is that no law should jeopardize our American values of religious
freedom, military service, volunteerism, and entrepreneurship. The
legislation that the House has passed today will uphold these values
while encouraging businesses to hire more veterans. These are
bipartisan, commonsense bills that should immediately be taken up by the
Senate so we can work together to protect Americans from the negative
consequences of ObamaCare. I thank Representatives Aaron Schock, Lou
Barletta, and Rodney Davis for their work on these important bills.”
Background
H.R. 3474, the Hire More Heroes Act: This
legislation incentivizes small businesses to hire veterans by ensuring
that veterans who already receive health insurance through the
Department of Veterans Affairs or reservists covered under TRICARE are
exempted from being counted towards the number of employees required by
the employer mandate under ObamaCare.
H.R. 3685, Protecting Volunteer Firefighters & Emergency Responders Act:
This legislation amends the definition of “full-time employee” in the
Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 4980H to ensure that qualified
volunteers, including voluntary firefighters and emergency responders
are not counted for determining the number of full-time employees or
full-time equivalents at a given employer for the purposes of the
employer mandate in ObamaCare.
H.R. 1814 the Equitable Access to Care and Health (EACH) Act: This
legislation expands the religious conscience exemption in ObamaCare. It
will allow people avoid buying health insurance if they have a
religious reason for doing so in order to protect all faiths.
My e mail to Senator Harry Reid: demand that the Senate VOTE on Bills PASSED by Congress. In particular: HR 3721; HR3685 and, HR 1814 are of means to guarantee this nation's health care systems are protected from idiotic provisions of the ACA.
