Fellow Conservatives:
One of the biggest lies in Republican politics has finally been laid to rest.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has long maintained that its only goal is to win a Republican majority in the Senate.
But earlier this week,
the NRSC disproved this claim when it refused to support conservative
candidates against Democrats in the Fall.
Here's the background on this important story.
The NRSC has historically supported all Republican nominees regardless
of their ideology as part of the committee's goal of electing
Republicans.
There
have been races in the past where the NRSC played favorites with
moderates, but the committee always maintained public support for every
Republican nominee after the primary. The NRSC even supported Todd Akin
in 2012 once it was clear he was the only Republican on the ballot.
But the NRSC's policy of supporting all GOP nominees has now changed.
The NRSC was asked this week if they would commit to supporting conservative Dr. Milton Wolf (R-KS) in the general election. They refused.
The NRSC is trying to assassinate Dr. Wolf's character by calling him
unethical, unstable, and even sadistic. The attacks are so personal and
so extreme, they've left no room to support him in the future.
It's all being driven by the fact that Pat Roberts, the incumbent, saw
his lead collapse by 28 points after voters learned that he doesn't live
in Kansas and has been lying to them about it for over 15 years.
The NRSC's character attacks aren't limited to Dr. Wolf. They're also pushing stories suggesting that Chris McDaniel (R-MS) is a racist and that Matt Bevin
(R-KY) is a criminal. It's very hard to see how the party could support
them in the general election after making such extreme statements.
The NRSC is also spending a lot of energy helping moderates in red state
primaries where the outcome won't change the makeup of the Senate
instead of focussing on purple and blue states where they can gain
seats. If they truly wanted to win a majority, they wouldn't be doing
this.
The real mission of the
NRSC is to elect establishment candidates regardless of whether it leads
to a Republican majority. The NRSC isn't trying to build a new Senate,
they're trying to protect the old one.
It's
why they supported Arlen Specter against Pat Toomey (R-PA), Charlie
Crist against Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Trey Greyson against Rand Paul
(R-KY). And it's why they're trying so hard now to defeat conservatives
in the red state primaries in Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, and
Mississippi.
If the NRSC truly wanted to win a majority, they wouldn't be supporting
Mitch McConnell in Kentucky who is less electable in November than Matt
Bevin, his conservative challenger.
The NRSC can support Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) in red states
and even abandon conservative candidates in the general election if they
want to. That's their prerogative. But they can't say their goal is to
elect a Republican majority in the Senate anymore. That is simply
untrue.
Our mission at the Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) is to elect principled conservatives because the kind of Republicans we elect is important.
We can send as many people wearing red jerseys to Washington as we want,
but if they're playing for the blue team it doesn't really matter.
Our endorsed candidates are gaining support and surging in the polls
because of your willingness to stand up to the party bosses in
Washington and fund candidates who support the Constitution and will
fight to defend it.
Thank you for fighting for America's future.
Best regards,
Matt Hoskins
Executive Director
Senate Conservatives Fund
