Morning Briefing
For February 5, 2014
Before we get into this morning's briefing, I need to make an announcement I'm quite proud to make. Ben Howe, one of our front page contributors, has put together a documentary about Detroit. Ben has been more and more demand to do campaign commercials and video work for others. His skill is pretty impressive. Ben's documentary, Bankrupt, shows off his skill level and also his ability to tell an interesting story. It's actually well done and informative. If you're interested in what happened in Detroit, you should watch it. You can actually watch it on YouTube right here and I'm sure Ben would not mind me telling you that he's for hire to do your video work. He's really quite good. You can contact Ben here.
Now, on to the Briefing . . .
And We’re Doing Immigration Reform?
Dana Milbank is a liberal columnist at the
Washington Post who has enraged liberals overnight. Why? This column. It
concludes, “Obamacare has been undermined by the very entity they had
used to validate it.”
As I noted on twitter yesterday, during the
2009-2010 fight over Obamacare, the left told Republicans, “Live by the
CBO, die by the CBO.” The GOP had been convinced the CBO would show
Obamacare destroying the economy. But the CBO only looks ten years out
and the law was structured to punt a lot of costs down the road. So when
the report came in, miracle of miracles, the CBO claimed Obamacare
would fix the deficit, create jobs, solve poverty, cure erectile
dysfunction, and raise the dead.
Live by the CBO. Die by the CBO. They’ve look again. The Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, turns out to be deeply destructive. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Majority Believe Obama Policies Will Fail
A new CNN/ORC poll released Monday, found
that a majority of Americans — 56 percent, now think Obama’s policies
are likely to fail in coming years. According to the new CNN poll, only
37 percent think Obama’s policies will succeed will succeed.
The finding is a reversal from a year ago
when CNN polling found 54 percent that President Obama’s policies would
succeed, while 39 percent thought they would fail. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
How to resist
It
didn’t occur to me, when writing of my reasons for skepticism of Big
Government, that it would end up with something of a cliffhanger ending,
or maybe an implied final sentence reading “… and that’s why we’re
doomed.” But I can see why the beast I described sounds formidable. We’re
generations past the point where it could have been reformed by a few
visionaries, boosted into office with a few well-timed votes. We live among a generation that has been shaped by the government, more than it has been shaped by them. You can’t give social engineers decades of time, and trillions of dollars in resources, without seeing some results. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
McConnell Auditions for Job as Cable News Commentator
At present, we are getting rolled in Washington. Democrats have pushed an omnibus bill, a disastrous farm bill, endless debt ceiling increases, and amnesty for illegals. Instead
of an equal and opposing force in the opposite direction, Republicans
have….. pushed an omnibus bill, a disastrous farm bill, endless debt
ceiling increases, and amnesty for illegals.
There is a serious lack of leadership and vision within the Republican Party. Naturally, as Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell is in a solid position to provide that leadership. He is certainly proud of his position. So where has he been on all of these important issues? . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
