Morning Briefing
For January 27, 2014
Why Bother?
I did not watch the Golden Globes this year. I
did not watch the Grammys. I am not sure if I will watch the State of
the Union address.
Why bother?
A
thin skinned amateur who has been in office six years and still can’t
grasp how to do his job will stand before an even more thin skinned
Parliament of Whores and tell them he does not need them, while knowing
he really does need them, while none of them truly want to be with each
other, and all have lawyers ready to go bow before the black robed
masters who’ll sit stone faced at the front of room knowing they really
rule the joint.
My
only hope is that the Republicans grow a pair and start laughing
uncontrollably when the President begins touting Obamacare, which you
know he will do and which you know they will not. Paging Steve Stockman —
here’s your moment. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Internal White House Memo: Time for an Imperial Presidency! …*Suckers*.
Sometimes
I wonder whether the Obama administration’s absolute and total contempt
for its most rabid supporters is based on the same thing as my absolute
and total contempt for its most rabid supporters. Because let’s face
it: if you spent eight years screaming about Imperial Presidencies and
Unitary Executives and how George Bush was a unilateralist cowboy and
similar agitprop, this passage should be the equivalent of a
poisoned-tipped dagger in the kidney. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Congressional Black Caucus unhappy with Obama judicial appointments
The
Hill’s Mike Lillis, reports that leaders of the Congressional Black
Caucus (CBC) plan to “publicly rebuke” President Obama because of the
“lack of diversity’ in his federal judicial appointments.”
It’s
hard to understand the CBC’s complaint. According to Freddie Allen,
Obama’s judicial appointments have resulted in a higher rate of Black
judges confirmed than any other president in history. Research compiled
by the Alliance for Justice, demonstrated that so far during the Obama
administration, Blacks have accounted for 18.7 percent of the federal
judicial confirmations, more than the 7.3 percent under George W. Bush
or the 16.4 percent under Bill Clinton. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Missing the lessons of the NC unemployment “experiment.”
My
belief was, and still is, that people will rightly hold out for a
“better deal” if it benefits their family. In other words, if you get
$550 per week from the state of North Carolina and are offered a job
making $350 per week working somewhere else that doesn’t afford you the
time to continue looking for a job you might be happier with, you would,
understandably, choose to continue collecting that check.
To
support this point I mentioned the for-hire signs located around the
city and how they remained remarkably persistent in spite of an
unemployment rate that hovered just below 9%. This wasn’t an attempt to
prove that an avalanche of unwanted jobs existed, more to say that in a
land of 9% unemployment, you’d think these signs would be less
pervasive. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
The World’s Worst Idea
Comes news that House GOP Whip Kevin McCarthy
has endorsed comprehensive legalization for persons unlawfully in this
country, and predicts the entire House “leadership team” may follow
suit.
Presumably,
the leadership epiphany will be embodied in the “immigration
principles” which House Speaker John Boehner will unveil at this year’s
appropriately named “Republican retreat.”
Thus, this package is expected to include . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Aaron Gardner Comes On Board
RedState
is like a second wife and a third child. So I have a hard time giving
up any control anyway. But I know I need to and I know I need a stubborn
hard headed soul to make me. Aaron Gardner fits the bill. Haha.
Aaron
has been a long time front page writer at RedState, worked for a while
at Media Trackers Colorado, then headed to Ken Buck’s Senate campaign to
do communications. The moment I learned of the deal between Eagle and
Salem, I started lobbying hard to get Aaron here. And so he is. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
