In speaking with Mary Adams, a conservative leader from Maine, here at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), I learned that the Maine Republican Party actually has the following included in the party’s official platform:
“We urge all Republican candidates for state and national office to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, and to vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes and fees.”
Would love to see the Nevada GOP approve a similar statement in the form of an official resolution at its next meeting in September!
Would also like to see conservative Republican pledge-signing challengers running against tax-hiking Republican incumbents campaign with this slogan: “If I’m elected, you’re protected!”
REPEAL OBAMACARE LETTER
Today, members of the Obamacare Repeal Coalition, of which Citizen Outreach is a member, sent the below letter to House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell:
With the clock ticking to open enrollment on October 1, it is abundantly clear to members of the Repeal Coalition that the structure at the heart of PPACA is simply not ready. To help the American people avoid getting hit by what Senator Max Baucus memorably referred to as "a huge train wreck coming down," we the undersigned urge you to insist on, at minimum as part of any final deal, a one-year delay of all 2014 provisions (including mandates, subsidies, and taxes) in the upcoming CR and in fiscal negotiations with the White House.
1. Mandates. The president has already delayed the mandate for the biggest corporations unilaterally, although his legal authority to do so is questionable. Congress should lift the legal cloud on that delay and extend the same relief to individuals and small businesses by delaying the individual mandate. It is wrong to force people to participate in a system that is simply not ready.
2. Subsidies. Without a complete, workable verification system to protect taxpayers it would be reckless to allow tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to flow in subsidies. And there is a real risk that navigators, in their zeal to enroll people, will accidentally or even intentionally induce people to accept subsidies for which they do not qualify, risking steep IRS fines and audits. The money should not flow when the law's verification provisions are not ready to be enforced.
3. Taxes. The American people should not be forced to pay higher taxes for a system that isn't ready. Kevin Counihan, chief executive of Connecticut's state exchange, has repeatedly said: "I wish we had one more year." With the train wreck coming, millions of Americans feel the same way. We therefore urge you to insist on a one-year delay and we will strongly support all efforts to include one on any long-term continuing resolution, extenders package, or other negotiated budget deal this fall.

ABORTION GROUP HEARTS BILBRAY
“EMILY's List, a group focused on electing pro-abortion rights Democratic women, is making its first endorsements of the 2014 cycle,” reported The Hill on Tuesday, “backing six candidates running against GOP incumbents in swing House districts.”
Among the six is “businesswoman” Erin Bilbray (D), who is challenging Rep. Joe Heck (R) in Nevada’s 3rd congressional district.
EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said in a statement that Bilbray and the others “are experienced public servants and glass ceiling breakers with proven records of fighting for women and families.”
Look, I get how a pro-abortion woman is described as “fighting for women” if she fights for a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy.
But how is fighting for the right to abort a baby compatible with “fighting for families”? Don’t you need babies to establish, you know, a family?

SAVE THE DATE
I’ll be conducting a free candidate/would-be candidate workshop for Reno/Carson City area on Monday evening, September 9, 2013. Pencil it in now. Details coming soon.
WOULD HE BELIEVE IT? SURE-WOULD!
I didn’t think it possible for former Assemblyman Mark “SureWould” Sherwood - who anonymously tweeted about an anonymous email about an anonymous Facebook post that claimed I was cheating on my wife – to actually believe the responses from my wife and George Harris that I wrote in the last Muth’s Truths were real.
You’d think when I wrote at the end of the column, “Of course, everyone with an IQ over room temperature knows all of this crud is made up, including the responses from George and Gia,” that would give him a clue that, you know, that those responses were, you know, made up.
But what I hadn’t counted on was just how clueless this guy really is. Would he actually believe it?
Sure would!
Indeed, I’ve been told that SureWould actually thought George and my wife have been in a romantic relationship for the past 20 years, with George dressing up as a milkman. What a ‘shroom!
For the record, SureWould, neither my wife nor I are cheating with anyone, including with the milkman, the mailman, the cable guy, the plumber, the landscaper, the house cleaner, the babysitter or the pool boy.
THE FURTHER (MIS)ADVENTURES OF MARK SURE-WOULD
During his only session in office, Nevada state Assemblyman Mark “SureWould” Sherwood walked into the Carson City Bank of America to cash a check. As he approached the cashier he said, "Good morning Ma'am, could you please cash this check for me?"
Cashier: "It would be my pleasure, sir. Could you please show me your ID?"
SureWould: "Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn't think there was any need to. I am Mark Sherwood, the great Nevada state assemblyman from Las Vegas.”
Cashier: "Yes sir, I know who you are. But with all the regulations and monitoring of the banks because of impostors and forgers and requirements of the Dodd/Frank legislation, etc., I must insist on seeing ID."
SureWould, rather indignantly: "Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am!"
Cashier: "I am sorry, Assemblyman, but these are the bank rules and I must follow them."
SureWould: "I am urging you, please, to cash this check."
Cashier: "Look Assemblyman, here is an example of what we can do. One day, Tiger Woods came into the bank without ID. To prove he was Tiger Woods he pulled out his putter and made a beautiful shot across the bank into a cup. With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and cashed his check.
“Another time, Andre Agassi came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made a fabulous shot whereas the tennis ball landed in my cup. With that shot we cashed his check.
“So, Assemblyman, what can you do to prove that it is you, and only you?"
SureWould stands there thinking, and thinking, and finally says…
"Honestly, my mind is a total blank. There is nothing that comes to my mind. I can't think of a single thing. I have absolutely no idea what to do. I’m clueless."
Cashier: "Will that be large or small bills, Mr. Sherwood?"
