Republicans Have Acted; Democrats’ Divisions Leave Students With Higher Interest Rates |
WASHINGTON, DC
- House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement
after Senate Democrats adjourned for a week-long recess without passing
any legislation addressing student loan interest rates, which double
today:
“Republicans
have passed common-sense legislation mirroring the president’s plan to
stop student loans from doubling and make college more affordable.
It’s disappointing that Senate Democrats left town without taking
action on behalf of students and their families. Indeed, the divisions
among the president and his own party are directly responsible for the
current impasse that will now result in higher borrowing costs for
students already coping with skyrocketing tuition bills. We need the
president to lead and help bring Senate Democratic leaders along to
resolve this issue. Republicans have acted. We’ve done our job, it’s
time for the president and his party to do their job.”
