House Sends Student Loan Reform to President’s Desk

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today thanked members of both parties for coming together to adopt long-term, market-based student loan reform and send it to President Obama’s desk:

“Today, we’ve taken an important step to help make life work for students and families trying to afford the cost of college.  Going forward, the whims of Washington politicians won’t dictate student loan interest rates, meaning more certainty and more opportunities for students to take advantage of lower rates.  Democrats who run Washington did the right thing by finally agreeing to these long-term reforms, which first passed the House in May as part of Republicans’ jobs plan.  I thank the members of the Education & the Workforce Committee – in particular, Chairman John Kline and Virginia Foxx – for their hard work and leadership.  This measure is a victory for America’s students, and President Obama should sign it in short order.”
