Urgent Action Alert: Dear Conservatives, The long-awaited immigration “reform” bill will make its way to the Senate floor for a full vote before the July 4th holiday, says one Capitol Hill insider. Yesterday, the chamber voted 84-15 in favor of the "motion to proceed" to S. 744: the "Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act." This thinly veiled amnesty plan has remained in a legislative “shadow” due to the ongoing scandals and investigations in Washington, D.C. While these smokescreens may be dominating the current news cycle, a contact inside Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office insists that now is definitely the time for grassroots Americans to "make noise" about the immigration bill:
“I know it is hard to get people engaged, but it should happen soon," Grassfire was told. "[There’s] not much time! The grassroots need to have their voices heard!”
+ + McConnell: “The Bill Has Serious Flaws” Even before voting to “invoke cloture” and move S. 744 forward for debate, Sen. McConnell (R-KY) made it clear on the Senate floor that the “Gang of Eight” bill, as it stands now, is unacceptable:
“(Tuesday's) vote isn’t a final judgment on their product as much as it is a recognition of the problem, a national one, that needs debate. The ‘Gang of Eight’ has done its work. Now it’s time for the Gang of 100 to do its work -- for the entire Senate to have its say on this issue and see if we can do something to improve the status quo. ... This bill has serious flaws. I’ll vote to debate it and for the opportunity to amend it. But in the days ahead there will need to be major changes to this bill if it’s going to become law. These include, but are not limited to, the areas of border security, government benefits and taxes.”
McConnell also said he would need “more than an assurance” from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano that the U.S. border is secure. The Senate Minority Leader added that inadequate border security “not only makes true immigration reform far more difficult; it presents an urgent threat to national security.” + + Oppose The "Gang Of Eight" Immigration Bill Grassfire has launched a national platform allowing team members to make their voices heard on the “Gang of Eight” immigration bill.
