Chuck Hagel has now been referred to as “clueless” by a colleague. More concerns are being raised about Hagel’s nomination to head the Department of Defense as the pressure from those opposing the President’s nominee mounts.
Please see my important update below – Mat.
Conservatives,
On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made a devastating statement on the nomination of Chuck Hagel to fill the position of Secretary of Defense.
“Chuck Hagel is a good man, but these are dangerous times. What kind of signal are we sending to the Iranians when our nominee for Secretary of Defense seems clueless about what our policy is? I hope the Obama Administration will reconsider his nomination.”
Now, a day after Senator Graham’s “clueless” comment – and a day before the expected vote on Hagel’s nomination in the Senate Committee on Armed Services, there are calls to delay the vote.
Senators James Inhofe (R-OK) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) reportedly are calling for a delay on the Committee vote until they can get more information from Hagel.
Reports have also surfaced that Senate Democrats may not have a lock on the needed votes to prevent Republicans from maneuvering around a full Senate confirmation vote on Hagel.
Last, but certainly not least, it’s reported by Breitbart News today that members of the Senate Committee received the results of a poll that strongly suggests that a vote for Hagel may not be in their best political interest.
50% of those polled said they disapproved of Hagel’s nomination after hearing of his views!
The poll concluded: “There is a significant disconnect between Senator Hagel’s views and the majority of Americans – including many supporters of the President.”
++The momentum in this battle is shifting!
The call for a delay in the vote tells me that Senators are feeling pressure from their constituents… constituents like us, the many friends of Liberty Counsel Action, who have inundated the Senate with our “oppose Hagel” fax barrage.
Today the “oppose Hagel” petition, which includes your name if you signed and tens of thousands of others, is being delivered to key Senators on the Armed Services Committee.
But I must ask you to take one more step today – 24 hours before the possible committee vote. Please join in the highly effective Liberty Counsel Action fax barrage of the Senate!
With a possible vote less than 24 hours away, time is short. Everything you need to immediately fax your two Senators, the Senate Committee, or even every Senator is one click away:
++Bad personnel choices lead to bad policy decisions!
There is a time-proven political axiom which says, “Personnel is policy.” This is certainly true in the case of Barack Obama’s nomination of Chuck Hagel to oversee a Department both men want to subject to dangerous cuts.
By nominating the highly controversial Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense, Barack Obama is overlooking our national interest in having a strong military and unwavering support of Israel.
He is signaling that his second term will be open to rampant cronyism in his criteria for appointments and placements. At a minimum, this nomination raises significant questions about the President’s true view on Middle East foreign policy.
Even if you have already sent faxes, please join us in opposing President Obama’s nomination of Chuck Hagel for the office of Secretary of Defense. He is simply the wrong choice. There are far better candidates to lead our nation’s Department of Defense!
Thank you for taking immediate action on this critical issue!
God bless you,
Mathew Staver, Chairman

P.S. Assessing the Hagel nomination, I believe we are just beginning to see the extent to which our President is radicalizing his second term.
PLEASE send your faxes today to the Senate Committee on Armed Services – and other members of the Senate…
