NEVADA - SENATE DEBATE 09/27/2012 -CONSERVATIVE HELLER vs LIBERAL BERKLEY

Dear Nevada Activists,
The race for Nevada's US Senate seat is one of the closest races in the country this year, and sure to get plenty of media coverage. The candidates for US Senate, Democrat Shelley Berkely incumbent Republican Senator Dean Heller, will be participating in a debate this Thursday, September 27.
KNPB, Public Television for Northern Nevada, and Vegas PBS are producing the first of three debates. The debate will be filmed in KNPB's studio. Although voters cannot physically attend the event, they are encouraged to send questions for the candidates via email.
Neither candidate has filled out a NumbersUSA candidate survey about immigration policies. Check out the incomplete candidate comparisonhere.
Nevada voters deserve to know where both candidates stand on the issues! NumbersUSA has sent surveys to both campaigns with no answer. This is why we need our activists in Nevada to submit a question for the debate, or drop off a survey to the candidates' offices. The more people who ask questions and drop off surveys, the better chances we have at getting the candidates to say what they really stand for!
Here are some suggested questions for the debate:

Mandating E-Verify nationwide would open up 7 million jobs currently being held by illegal aliens in non-agricultural positions. Nevada's unemployment is the highest in the country. Making sure only legal workers get jobs should be a top priority for our US Senator-elect. Senator Heller supported E-Verify when he was a Congressman, but why hasn't he supported a bill as Senator? Would Shelley Berkley support a nationwide, mandatory system if elected?
We continue to import 1.3 million immigrants to the US each year, over half of these recent immigrants are in the "low skilled" category (only a high school degree or less). The continued influx of immigrants compete with the most vulnerable in our nation for jobs, which has led to sky-high unemployment among youth, minorities and recent immigrants. Would either candidate work to eliminate the visa lottery or chain migration, policies that aid in importing low-skilled immigrants?
Overpopulation is a problem we are going to have to face in this this country. 80% of our population growth comes from immigration alone, while the fertility rate among native-borns has dropped to less than 2 children per family. Our population will DOUBLE in 88 years if we keep the current policies in Washington. Do either candidates favor a reducing overall immigration numbers to traditional levels (1/2 million per year) in order to have a more sustainable America?
To submit a question for the candidates:
Send an email to news@knpb.org
**Make sure to put "Senate Debate Question" in the subject line.
**Include your name and town in the email.

To drop off a survey to the candidates' offices:
