A-PLUS Education Reform

Conservatives, We hear a lot these days about government over-regulation in the business community, but not enough focus is given to government over-regulation in education. Programs like No Child Left Behind (NCLB), which is just one of 150 government-run education programs, impose a top-down bureaucracy that restricts real education. Because state and local governments know best, Congress should pass a proposal called the Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success Act, or A-PLUS. It allows states to opt out of NCLB’s bureaucracy, putting the power of education back into the hands of the states, local governments and parents. >> Learn more: See how A-PLUS can benefit children across the country. As Rep. John Kline (R-MN) said in April: "If we are going to move forward in education, Washington has to move in a new direction, States and schools should be able to set their own innovative priorities and receive maximum flexibility to advance those priorities." We're calling on Members of Congress to co-sponsor A-PLUS. It's time for Washington to get out of the way and let those closest to the students decide how best to educate them.
