RALSTON WATCH
Nugget #1: Political pundit Jon Ralston had a cow yesterday over a blogger’s complaint that Isometimes delete comments posted on my own blog, which I have, in fact, done from time to time…especially posts posted anonymously which put forward false or misleading information or are posted as unpaid advertisements for someone else’s website/blog.
When someone on those rare occasions complains about having their comment deleted (usually unhinged liberals, right “matt”?), they usually scream “CENSORSHIP!” – just as Jon did yesterday. Two points on that.
First, while you have the right to free speech, you do NOT have the right to use my blog to exercise your right. As I advised one such complainer during the heat of last year’s U.S. Senate race, if you want to pontificate your opinions, start your own blog; don’t try to use mine. (Which, by the way, he did.)
Secondly, in response to Jon’s shrill “And he deletes comments!” tweet yesterday, I tweeting Jon back: “So you're saying your newspaper (Jon’s an employee at the Las Vegas Sun)doesn't censor letters to the editor and delete comments?”
For the record, yes…it does.
Indeed, the paper has a policy in that regard very similar to my own. “Anonymous letters will not be considered,” the paper’s disclaimer states. In addition, comments on the paper’s website “are moderated by the Las Vegas Sun editors” and “Comments that are off-topic, vulgar, profane or include personal attacks will be removed.” (my emphasis)
They delete comments! OMG!
Anyway, Jon was forced to admit that he was wrong in criticizing me on this point…although he’ll never admit that he admitted he was wrong. Naturally, he tried to rationalize such faux “censorship” on the Sun’s part, but you can smell the hypocrisy.
People in glass houses, Jon. People in glass houses.

- Again, why would any state desiring an early caucus/primary give a darn about losing 1/2 its delegates to a meaningless convention?
- Losing 1/2 delegates to a convention where nothing is decided isn't much of a disincentive to FL to not move up primary. Slap on wrist.
