In April of this year, the Secretary had this to say:

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said Tuesday there is "no risk" the U.S. will lose its top credit rating amid a new analysis that revised its outlook on American debt to "negative."
Geithner took to the airwaves of financial news networks to push back against a report Monday by Standard & Poor's that lowered its outlook on U.S. debt to "negative," reflecting political uncertainty over whether lawmakers will reach an agreement to address long-term debt.

Bachmann Calls for Geithner to Resign

DES MOINES, Iowa
Republican presidential candidate  Michele Bachmann called for the resignation of the Treasury Secretary in the wake of Standard & Poor’s downgrading of the U.S. credit rating.
 President Obama has destroyed the credit rating of the United States,” the Minnesota congresswoman told reporters Friday. “I call on the president to seek the immediate resignation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.”

Echoing Democrat's Comments, Two Republicans Call for Geithner to Go


Echoing comments made by a Democratic lawmaker Wednesday night, two Republican members of the Joint Economic Committee today called for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to resign.
"It's been a year since the president was elected," the panel's ranking Republican, Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas, said at a hearing this morning featuring Geithner. "It's appropriate for the American people to assess how well the administration's economic policies are working. They are not. They have failed."

Mack calls Geithner "disaster," demands resignation

Rep. Connie Mack IV (R-Fla.) is the first member (we think) to call for Tim Geithner's head.
Bear in mind that many Republicans, including Mack, have been sour on the Treasury Secretary from jump and 34 Senators, including Mack's fellow Florida Republican Mel Martinez, voted against Geithner's confirmation.

Republican Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina called for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s immediate resignation Friday night in response to S&P downgrading the U.S. credit rating.
“The President should demand that Secretary Geithner resign and immediately replace him with someone who will help Washington focus on balancing our budget and allowing the private sector to create jobs,” DeMint said in a statement.
