ATF scandal reporter banned from hearing, gets ambushed by Media Matters
July 27, 2011
During a lengthy hearing yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives on the gun smuggling scandal that has engulfed the ATF and the DOJ, one of the two reporters who first broke the story was banned from the committee hearings and was subsequently ambushed by Media Matters, the leftwing, George Soros-funded propaganda machine for progressives.
Mike Vanderboegh, whose numerous contacts within various levels of the federal government led to the first news story that was published concerning the 'Project Gunwalker' scandal in December of 2010, had traveled to Washington last week to attend Congressman Darrell Issa's committee hearings on Project Gunwalker and to discuss further developments on the investigation with informants, whistleblowers, members of the media, and Congressmen and Senators.
Prior to the hearings Vanderboegh had received explosive new information indicating that the ATF had informed the National Security Council about the illegal scheme and had communicated directly with the White House via emails.
ATF Phoenix field division head William Newell had exchanged emails with Kevin O'Reilly, the White House Director of North American Affairs, which is part of the National Security Council. The emails show that Newell had fully disclosed the plot to O'Reilly.
As Darrell Issa's Committee on Oversight and Government Reform began to zero-in on the O'Reilly connection to the scandal, Vanderboegh asked a lawyer for the Department of Justice to pass down to Newell's attorney the complete biographical information on Kevin O'Reilly and a note asking Newell for an interview. Vanderboegh had received the bio from members of Issa's committee in an off-the-record rendezvous the day before.
The DOJ attorney took strong exception to Vanderboegh's request and reported to the committee that she was being 'harassed.' At that point Vanderboegh was banned from the hearings, upon which he took a seat in the hallway outside the committee hearing room.
It was then that a Media Matters heckler stuck a cell phone camera in Vanderboegh's face and angrily demanded to know why he had 'lied' about the Tampa Gunwalker incident being connected to Operation Castaway. Vanderboegh recited the facts about the Tampa connection to the scandal and blew the heckler off with a choice expletive.
Vanderboegh explains the entire scenario, along with a description of his own discoveries while in D.C., on his blog at Sipsy Street Irregulars. And National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea provides the complete transcript of the committee's questioning of Newell concerning emails to the National Security Council.
The central issue coming out of all of this is that the federal government machine is striking back against those they have identified as enemies among the citizenry and within the government itself--conscientious patriots who not only were appalled at what they saw occurring in the Obama Administration but determined to get the story out. And a large part of the damage-control is stonewalling and denials.
Later in the day, the White House denied that it had received any information concerning Project Gunwalker from Newell, according to a report filed by CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson:
Today, a White House spokesman said the email was not about Fast and Furious, but about other gun trafficking efforts. The spokesman also said he didn't know what Newell was referring to when he said he'd spoken to O'Reilly about Fast and Furious.
However, sources within the intelligence community, speaking on condition of anonymity, say otherwise. And the Obama machine is desperately attempting to identify those sources of information, even going as far to suggest that Vanderboegh is but a pawn in the hands of powerful people behind the scenes.
As the dragnet closes in on the very top of the leviathan government chain, the paranoia is kicking up into high gear.
