TX House Panel Approves Bill to Curb ‘Sanctuary Cities’
Under a bill approved 9-4 by the Texas House State Affairs Committee, Texas cities would face penalties for prohibiting police from asking people they stop about their immigration status. If any entity, such as a city or a police department, created a policy that bans such questioning, it would lose state grants and face a potential lawsuit from the attorney general. Proponents of this bill, included Gov. Rick Perry, are frustrated over illegal immigration and its drain on the economy and are finally sending a clear message that the state will seek to deport those illegally present in the country.
