Obama: Gas prices hurts recovery

High gas prices are hurting Americans’ pocketbooks and threatening the recovery, President Barack Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio address. Still, he added, there’s no quick fix, even as his administration devotes resources to making sure oil firms aren’t engaging in price gouging.


As the federal government moves to cut overall spending, Obama said the nation must continue to invest in new energy research. We can cut spending, he said, “while still investing in the technologies that will create jobs and allow the United States to lead the world in new industries. That’s how we’ll not only reduce the deficit, but also lower our dependence on foreign oil, grow the economy and leave for our children a safer planet.”
